Jaguar made some major changes and improvements on this platform in 2003, the most important one being an all aluminum body. Not only did it reduce the vehicle's weight considerably, thus improving gas mileage, it made for a much better handling car than it's predecessor, the X300. Being Ford owned at the time, sweeping improvements were made to the electronics, transmission, and the engine. Finally, a Jaguar XJ you did not have to make excuses for. Engine: Engine lost compression in one cylinder about 1000 miles ago. Replacement engine came from a a 2009 XK with 59,000 miles and has a 90 day warranty from a local shop. Engine is perfect. Starts right up every time. Idles perfectly right at 650 RPM with no misfire or abnormal sounds. Revs all the way to redline with no pings, no missing and no knocking. Just drove it 500 miles to Santa Barbara for a shake down and trip computer showed an average of 25.5MPG! No oil leaks, no issues at all. Transmission: 6 speed transmission in this car is perfect. Always seems to be in the right gear for any situation. Shifts from park to reverse to drive all with no clunk, no hesitation or drama. Shifts up and down with no slippage or harsh shifting. Suspension: This car still handles as it did when it was new. There is nothing loose in the suspension. Everything up front is still tight as new. Tracks straight. No wandering or pulling. No leaks in suspension components. Paint/Body: Paint on this car is original. No paint work any where. Beautiful dark green non metallic sheen that the car was sold new with. A few minor parking dings around the car that should be gone by the time my dent guy takes care of them. **Photo shows a cracked driver side fog light and plastic moulding missing. These items have been replaced since photo was taken. Electrical: Nothing to report here either. Everything works perfectly. If you really look carefully, there is a faint trace of wear on the driver seat, but no cracking, no splitting, and no sun damage anywhere. Tires/Brakes: 18" Michelin Pilot Sport tires are about 5000 miles old. Perfectly balanced and showing even wear all around. Front and rear brakes have about 60% wear left. No "brake shake" due to uneven rotors. Stops straight and true with no pulling.
