The Vintage Racer 1600 1966 Datsun Roadsters are skyrocketing in price and for good reason; vintage sleek design, powerful 1595 CC engines, racing provenance in the SCCA, and they are becoming very hard to find! To the uninformed, the Datsun Roadsters (the collective nick name for all models in the U.S. and known as the Fairlady in Japan) are thought to be just Japanese MGB copies, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In point of fact, the Datsun pre-dated the introduction of the MGB by several months, and any styling similarities are coincidental. Whereas when the performance of the MGB began to slide downward post-1967, it was just the opposite for the Datsun 1600's Datsun Roadsters are aggressive looking sports cars, the small hood scoop and stacked tail lights are unique features that set it apart. The 1600 was a legitimate stoplight sleeper and the 1966 version is rare and desirable. Datsun Roadsters raced successfully in SCCA matches and continue to be good vintage racers in the circuit. The Body Panels are very straight. The Exterior Chrome is in decent condition. The Exterior trim, light bezels, stainless and vent window pillars are original and show their age with some pitting. The Convertible Soft Top is brand new and looks fabulous. The mechanical top bows and mechanism are in perfect shape and the top goes up and down effortlessly. The Interior is a combination of new and replacement materials. We would classify it as driver quality showing some wear in areas. The Seats are in fine shape with no rips or tears. The Tach and Speedo both work along with most of the gauges.....some have been replaced with aftermarket. The Heater and controls do not function which is common for California cars. This little 1600 is just a blast to drive, responsive with plenty of power, shifts smoothly and firmly, and brakes and handles great! The Chassis appears very solid and the Engine Compartment is very tidy, showing pride of ownership and maintenance.
