Up for auction is my 1982 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia. I normally don't mess with anything other than AMCs(Javelins, Pacers, Rebels etc),but I've always been fond of Westys(the Swiss Army Knives of vehicles!), and I'm finding it very hard to part with. I purchased this van from a friend about 1 1/2 year ago. It was very neglected so I put a lot of time into bringing this van back to life. I was blessed to know a another fellow whom knew so much about these Vanagons that saved me a lot of guess work getting the quirks figured out and back on the road. All replacement parts were bought new include: Fuel tank and complete fuel hoses/seals Fuel pump and filter Intake boot Plugs/wires/points/condenser Luk clutch Rear main seal Rotors, calipers, brakes hoses front and rear, bearings, wheel cylinders, pads and shoes. Alternator A few other items that I can't think of. The van purs like a kitten, though a kitten with a lite morning smokers cough. Meaning it needs to warm up a minute or so to be in prime. I love AMC muscle cars, speed and sideways around dirt road corners, but this van is a completely different joy to drive. I don't mind at all going slow in it. I prefer to blast some Link Wray and take my time in this jewel. Shifts great and stops fantastic! Included with the van is a weather strip kit for the pop top and a used pop top tent, though not sure if it's the correct one. I have not spent any serious time messing with the accessories such as sink, fridge etc. I have spent most time making this van road worthy(and juggling other projects). My wife and I took it on a 250 mile round trip and had a blast! I was able to see if the water tank held water or not when parked for the weekend at Gennie Springs FL. I filled it with ice and kept my beer in it. Ice lasted only a few days, but it didn't leak! The body is in fair shape. It does have a few rust spots. On the drivers side and passenger side foot steps(pictured), the broad side of the drivers side(pictured), and a few various other smaller spots. Has a few dents namely the passenger rear quarter. Rear bumper is nasty. Back glass was busted out years ago and replaced with plexiglass, which has a leak around the weather striping. Front grille is busted, front bumper is good. Fiberglass top is free of cracks or chips. Does need the weather striping replaced(included) but I would do that after first recoating the fiberglass top and installing a new tent. Windshield is cracked on passenger side. Interior is in fair shape. My plain was to completely customize the interior to my wife's and my tastes. Why not? I do like originality, but some vehicles need to be personalized. Choice is up to the next owner. Some of the laminate on the cabinets are splitting, mainly the rear section in the engine compartment. Seat fabric is in good shape including the top bunk. Front seats are nice and swivel all around and work as they're supposed to. Lights work while fuel gauge doesn't. Odometer reads 80,xxx miles, but am not sure of it's accuracy. It has never worked in the year and a half I've had it running. This van is whatever you want it to be. Leave it as it is, a "rat van", bring it back to it's original glory, or customize and do fancy upgrades. I am very fond of this thing, but am building funds for a down payment on a house. This isn't a forced sale. My reserve is my bottom dollar price. I WILL NOT disclose the reserve, but I will say it is fair. All questions welcome.
