1981 Mercedes 380SL Convertible Silver w/ Hard Top 1981 Mercedes 380SL Convertible PLUS: Factory Hard Top & Storage Stand Original Factory Wheels- Sandblasted last week for a new look (Great for winter tires) Own a real classic car that reigned in the US as the ultimate executive status symbol of success for almost TWO FULL DECADES!! From 1972-1989, this extremely solid example of German Engineering GENIUS has had only minor styling changes based on the theory, “If it is not broke, don’t fix it” Immaculate Condition, especially for a car from 1981! Paint even appears original and is beautiful & shiny. These cars were given a cutting edge paint technology that is now commonplace. It has been so well cared for, the Dash is not all cracked like most 1981 SL-class cars, nor has the wood been damaged on the interior. BRAND NEW SOFT TOP & NEW SEALS Mechanically in AMAZING condition. Be the lucky owner of this car which has had the major engine work that any older 109 Chassis usually needs before or at this point in its lifespan. Check out the following: MAJOR and EXPENSIVE maintenance done within the past 10,000 miles!!!! These items being done recently will likely save you thousands vs. most other 380SL’s on the market that haven’t been maintained like this one has been treated. Plus, would you rather spend your Saturdays driving this head turning, fabulous conversation piece to the golf course, or frustrated about a $5,000 repair bill and spending your Saturdays in a greasy mechanic shop waiting room? (With many classics, it may cost what you paid for the car to keep it on the road, but not this one) All service records have been kept, and go with the car. The following are important maintenance items that are very common issues with the 1981 Mercedes 380SL, and to keep them running in top condition, and to prevent potential more serious problems as the car ages more and has more miles driven, these items were deemed important to be done, which work was all completed WITHIN THE PAST 10,000 MILES OF THIS CAR’S LIFE! A GRAND TOTAL OF OVER $7,000 IN REPAIRS AND PREVENTATIVE WORK DONE IN THE PAST 10,000 MILES!!!! Including the following: -Major Head Gasket replacement including having the heads machined to ensure a solid seal on your head gasket. Approximately $2,400 -Single chain on the crank changed/upgraded to the much more reliable Double chain setup that Mercedes utilized in later models once Single chain versions began to fail. This includes not only a great deal of time and expertise, but also new chain tensioner and gear guides as well as two sets of belts side by side. Approximately $4,500 -Very meticulously maintained with services at regular intervals. Approximately $200 over last 10,000 miles -New Goodyear Tires with around 60% tread remaining on all four. Size is 225/50/R17. Balanced and Rotated in past week. Approximately $400 total for the 4 installed -The Mercedes 5 spoke wheels are off a newer chassis SL-Class. Approximately $360 for all four wheels -All 4 original Mercedes wheels come with the vehicle and have been sandblasted this month. Ready for paint and/or clear coat and would make great winter wheel/tire set. Approximately $120 for all four wheels -BRAND NEW SOFT TOP!!! INSTALLED LAST WEEK!!! These generally go bad about every 10 years and need to be replaced. Approximate cost, parts and labor is about $1,200. -A/C system completely replaced including compressor. The air conditioning blows very cold. Perfect for hot locations such as California, Florida or Texas. -Currently owned and being sold personally by a Mercedes Mechanic of almost 30 years.
