Vehicle Detail
1969 GTO Convertible Has 400.c.i. engine and 4-speed transmission. Good rubber front bumper (enduro bumper) and fold-away headlights. Carburetor and rear bumper were lost in a garage fire. Body is pretty rough. Over time, and through various owners, some restoration work has been started, but the body is rusty and has the typical rust holes growing in the floor and quarter-panels, and trunk. Also, a tractor backed into the passenger door and left a dent. Interior has been partially disassembled, but I believe all the pieces are there. Convertible roof is actually pretty good, but there are a couple cuts and no rear window. Has a wing for the trunk lid, but is not a "Judge". Has the original GTO title. Do not have the original Pontiac rims. I have listed this as local pick up-only because I have no idea how one ships a project car like this. But, I will try it if the buyer can help arrange it. I will imagine, though, that anyone buying a car like this will want to see it personally anyhow. When I bought the car, I was told it had the original engine and tranny in it, and the tail lights, front headlight covers, front grill and interior pieces were all inside the car. This appears to be true, but I don't know how to check the numbers on the drivetrain, and haven't pulled all the pieces out of the car to see what might be missing. I am selling it just the way I bought it and cannot provide much more information than I already have. I would suggest anyone not just window shopping come look at the car yourself. You might be pleasantly surprised. On Sep-19-14 at 18:14:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I know this won't answer everyone's questions, but I am adding some further info. The filler plugs for the hood air scoops are in the glove box. It looks like the tailights, front light covers and grills and parking lights are all in the car. Some other little pieces like the trunk lock, and some trim pieces might be in there too, but I haven't pulled everything out to see. The fabric for the convertible top looked worse today than I remember it, with the couple cuts I mentioned, but also is frayed the length of the seam above the rear window. It would be replaced anyhow I'm sure. The engine is missing the carburetor and has an Edelbrock intake manifold. I have trouble taking and posting pictures, and did not find the engine code #, but here is the info from the body data plate on the firewall. Here's a link to decoding the '69 GTO body data plate: sorry, ebay disallowed this link. look for "ultimate GTO" This car is VIN: 242679B128042 The numbers are: ST69 24267 BAL533962 BDY (Body code) 51A PNT (paint code: Liberty Blue with Ivory white convertible top) 11A (date code: first week of november) TR257 (interior code) 056102 On that webpage they have an example of decoding a 69 data plate, and it happens to be a convertible in the same color, so it's particularly similar to this car: I have had the car for 20 years, but never did anything with it. We just rolled it on a trailer back then and rolled it off into a leanto at my business and it's sat there ever since. It's not convenient to jack it up or check under it, but I have no reason to believe there's any trouble with the frame. When I bought the car I was told it was in good shape except for the poor efforts at restoration and subsequent rusting, and it is the same as when I bought it. (Except even rustier.) I will try to get the engine code in the next day or so, and may be able to answer more of your questions. Thank you for your interest. On Sep-20-14 at 21:00:24 PDT, seller added the following information: I spent some more time on the car today, and will add the following info. The odometer reading is 50,783. There is a tach/clock in the dash, but the clear cover is missing over that one part of the instrument cluster and it doesn't look good. The shifter handle has been stolen. I found the engine code and it is WS. I can't see under the car but the frame feels solid the whole way back on both sides, but rusty. The rear of the frame under the trunk is the worst and someone must have hooked a chain onto the rear crossmember and it is bent back in a V. I will try to add more pictures also.On Sep-21-14 at 11:26:24 PDT, seller added the following information: I am trying to answer everyones questions, but please remember I don't really know what I'm doing and might screw up. The car is sold as is! The exhaust manifolds both have 4X above the center two ports. The filler plugs for the hood are metal and closed. The brakes on left rear wheel are locked up. The rear end is not a 12 bolt. The worst part of the cars condition is that it is real rusty. I am not interested in selling the car privately. Just let the auction run it's course.Thank you all for your interest.
