Vehicle Detail
I'm sadly selling my 1971 MB 300 SEL. I have been very fond of Mercedes ever since I was a little kid. For decades I've collected quite a few Mercedes (mostly fintails) and I'm in the process of building a garage to house only a few of them and sell off a the rest, this being one of them. This is a lovely Black/Tan 300 SEL that starts up right away like a new car. This last July was the first time I started it in three years. I got in the drivers seat, turned the key and within a couple of cranks it started right up. 20 mins later the air-bags filled up and I drove it around the block. I believe this MB was originally from Los Angeles and does not have an ounce of rust anywhere. This MB has the original air-suspension with all four airbags that work properly and hasn't leaked since last July. The car drives great and the transmission shifts and operates as it should. I would not hesitate to drive this car on a long road trip in its mechanical condition. (The tires are top-of-the-line Michelin's although they are showing cracks from age) Random points: -The pictures of the car have been taken on August 22, 2014. -The gas in the tank is more than four years old. Back in July, 2014 I started it after three years and it's smoked a bit but then soon disappeared. Since then I have been driving it to and from the store and it has not smoked. I did add 10 gallons of fresh gas and it runs great. -When you are backing up the rear brakes catch the rotors causing a vibration which has to do with a bit of surface rust on the rotors. It should go away on it's own after driving it a while.-All for power windows operate as they should, -The vacuum door-locks sometimes work. -The factory air-conditioning is not blowing cold. -The condition of the interior is as pictured. The drivers seat is comfortable although you can see the leather is not in perfect condition. -Interior flaws: The wood on the dashboard, the small crack in the dash, and if you look at the windshield there is a scratch from the windshield wiper that could be possibly buffed out. -The exterior paint is not original although it looks great as the pictures show. My goal is to sell this Mercedes with a reasonable end-of-auction-bid. The reserve is set at what I consider a reasonable price. Good luck on your bidding.
