Vehicle Detail
1989 Porsche 911 Turbo. Also called the Porsche 930 Turbo. Currently 57K miles. I've owned the car in Dallas since 1998 (16 years). This car is sold by me "AS IS". No warranties. Email me for my phone number if you would like to ask questions. Factory original G50/50 Five speed transmission. (This was the first year for the factory five speed in the 911 Turbo.) New Tires. Clutch replaced at 44K miles. No Engine performance modifications other than the FabSpeed stainless steel exhaust, and removal of air injection pump. Factory original turbo running original 0.8 Bar boost. This car is far from perfect. Some defects to consider: Wear on drivers side bolster (pictured) Paint chip on right rear fender (pictured) The tape deck is not currently wired up and may not work The Freon from 3 years ago has leaked out. It will need to be recharged, and probably the compressor seals should be replaced. It is NOT a show car. In my OPINION the paint is not original. It is the original white color. According to published sales figures, there were about six hundred and fifty 1989 Coupe Turbos sold in the USA by Porsche. The list price in 1989 was about $80K. 1989 is the last year for this classic 911 Turbo body style, and the first year for the factory Turbo G50/50 five speed. Came from the factory (like all 930's) WITHOUT the following features: No Airbags No Power Steering No ABS No Cruise Control No Four Wheel Drive No Traction Control No Stability Control No Blue Tooth No Integration with your "Gen X" Apple Products No Auto Rain Detect Window Wipers No Paddle Shifters or Electronically Operated Clutch No Remote Tire Pressure Monitoring No Comfort/Sport Mode Button Just three pedals and a steering wheel. And a Blaupunkt Lexington CM84 tape deck! You get the idea. This is not a car for wimps. If you have been shopping for a 911 Turbo in the last few years you have probably noticed that the prices have been increasing. I wouldn't be selling mine if I didn't need the money. Please do your research on what these are currently advertised and selling for- Typically $120K to $149K for perfect 1989 Turbo models with low miles. My Porsche Turbo is not perfect. I am willing to listen to reason and fact. If the market won't support my asking price, I will adjust it. I want to sell this NOW. Some history about the 911s, 930s and Porsche transmissions: Porsche sold normally aspirated 911's with five speeds way back in the 1960's. In model year 1987 they started selling normally aspirated 911's with a completely redesigned five speed. This is referred to as a G50 transmission. The way the newer transmission was mounted in the car changed, and it is not a trivial task to install a 1987 or newer G50 transmission in an 1986 or older 911. The Porsche 911 Turbo (930) from introduction was shipped with a 4 speed transmission until model year 1989. For model year 1989 the 911 Turbo got a strengthened and re-ratioed five speed version of the G50 transmission that Porsche called the G50/50. The G50 and the G50/50 have very different gear ratios and HP/TORQ handling abilities. If you find a 1988 or older 911 Turbo with a five speed, this can mean one of several things. It could be that someone has installed a regular normally aspirated 911 five speed transmission in the car. The gear ratios and the HP/TORQ handling abilities of the regular 911 transmission may leave something to be desired in a Turbo equipped car. Ruf, and some other very reputable aftermarket tuners also offered strengthened properly ratioed five speed transmission upgrades for 911 Turbo's prior to 1989. If you are considering buying a 1988 or older Turbo that has a five speed transmission it would be a very good idea to have it carefully examined to know exactly what you are getting. Or you could just by a five speed 1989 Turbo (like mine...) and not worry about it!
