There's a short story behind the sale of this motorbike. Two of these were purchased new about 5 years ago for $900 (a really good price) because they were dealer leftover new stock. This one was used on a Hatteras yacht for land transportation when in port. It wasn't used very much, as you can tell from the incredibly low mileage. A friend of mine offered it to me for sale about a year ago for only $500 but, not being a biker, I took a pass. He finally listed it on eBay and I bid and was the high bidder. Now, I've never ridden a motorbike before and as soon as my wife found out about my purchase she said, "NO! NO! and NO!" I guess she felt that at 70 and weighing over 250lbs, it was too late for me to become a beginner biker! It is a Chinese make and there has been some trash talk about its' quality. I just remind you that everything I buy at Costco seems to be made in China these days. I've done some research and find that they sell new for between $1000 and $1500. They are used all throughout Asia and even the UK as a starter motorcycle. Here's a review I found on a blog answering questions about the worthiness of this brand: "Amazing, I fight this everyday...I am the Exclusive Distributor for Lifan in Canada, also the for Sumoto and others to follow. I fight the fact that everyone lumps the "Chinese" market as being cheap to buy and cheap in quality. Anywhere in the world that you go...you get what you pay for and that includes China. We spent large amounts of money researching what is available in China and found Lifan - # 1 in Quality, # 1 in Volume being Exported out of China and # 1 in the most motorcycle patents in the Chinese industry. They are so popular here in Canada that I can't even keep up with stock. How do they get popular ??? WORD OF MOUTH! These bikes are not a Honda, Suzuki or Kawi but I'll tell you, there good bikes and the price is definitley worth it. There's over 1000 manufactures in China of dirt bikes, Lifan is # 1, other factories try copying Lifan - that's how good they are. Please don't lump them together with all the "cheap" ones." This is a starter bike. It has adequate power to go over 60mph, but it is not a Beltway cruiser. If you are a first timer, it might be perfect for you. If you crash it, trash it or smash it, it won't be a major financial catastrophe. If it needs parts, they are cheap and readily available. Heck, a new engine would cost you less than $300. A carb about $30. Available for pick-up only. Located in Reston, VA. It fit in the back of my Grand Cherokee, almost. Good looking and in excellent condition.
