Vehicle Detail

Hello and thanks for looking... I purchased this car from its original owner with the intent on restoring it. Reality has kicked in and I have realized that I have too many projects as it is, therefore something has to give. Plus I already have an 82' TA, a 90' GTA, and a 96' TA. Anyhow, I started the resto by changing the passenger area carpet as the original was 30yrs faded and was heavily stained in the drivers foot well. The car is complete and does need further TLC, mainly in the area of either replacing the motor (sbc 305) or addressing the transmission, torque converter, or flexplate. I say that because the car does have a loud knock coming from the bottom end when started, and I tend to believe it may be a rod bearing but I'm not sure. However the knock does sound like it could be coming from where the trans and motor mate together. I haven't dropped the trans to see what the issue is. I was going to replace the motor with a 350, but my plans have changed unless the car doesn't sell. Although the car does have this knock, it does start right up with no smoking whatsoever and it does hold idle. The car does drive, but I say that as I have only driven it back and forth in my driveway. I cannot recommend driving the vehicle on the road with its current drivetrain issue. As far as the interior is concerned, as I stated I did change the passenger area carpet. However, the seats could use a re-do as the driver's side bolster is shot (as you can see in the pic) and the rear passenger seat backs are sun damaged (torn) at the very top. Other than that, there are a some minor nicks and tears in them. The dash pad is in tact with no cracks or warping whatsoever. The headliner is in decent shape as it does not sag, but it does have a couple of minor stains on it over the rear passenger side. The exterior is in decent shape except for the dent on the passenger side (as seen in the pic). According to the original owner, this happened when a thief stole the car from the underground carport and clipped the building support pillar while pulling out from the carport. The original owner stated the car was branded salvaged by his insurance company for either an accident many years ago, or the theft (I forget which one). Other than the dent, there are some small areas on the corners and front nose that I was going to spot paint, but as I stated before my plans have changed. The overall paint on the car is in really good shape however. There is no sagging on either door (as is fairly common with 3rd gen F-Bodys), and both doors close easily and solid. Other than the drivetrain knocking, this car seems to be pretty solid and would make a good resto project. There are other small things that need addressing for the car to be 100%, such as the radio (does not work), the AC (does not work), the driver and passenger door window seals, headlights (they go up but not down), and the center console armrest should be replaced. I left it because it does contain the option code decal underneath the lid. I'm sure there are other little things, but those are the main things that come to mind. Don't hesitate to ask questions. I will answer them as best I can, and will send pics if that helps. Thanks for looking...
