FJ60 LAND CRUISER: NO RESERVE! RARE 5-SPEED MANUAL WITH OLD MAN EMU SUSPENSIONCalifornia vehicle that has been a weekend drive for years and always parked in a garage. Many upgrades including a power sunroof and ARB bullbar. PLEASE NOTE: If you have zero or negative feedback, please contact me prior to bidding. Thanks! YOU ARE BIDDING IN A NO RESERVE AUCTION FOR AN ALPINE WHITE 1987 TOYOTA FJ60 LAND CRUISER. It is a California vehicle in excellent mechanical condition. The exterior and interior are not in show-quality condition, but are very good and exceedingly clean for this vintage. The vehicle has 190,601 miles – only 40,000 of which are on a new OEM Toyota 5-speed manual transmission. It is in excellent mechanical condition and sits proudly on an Old Man Emu Medium-Duty suspension and 32x11.5 R15 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires. Its body and paint are in very good condition with the most notable blemish the rust along the passenger-side rain-gutter (a common issue in Land Cruisers of this vintage) and a missing piece of rain-gutter chrome trim on the passenger rear corner. The interior is in excellent condition for a truck of this vintage. PLEASE SEE THE PICTURES AND THE ADDITIONAL DETAILS BELOW TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL CRUISER THAT CAN NOW BE YOURS! ABOUT ME: I am a former eBay Motors employee and adhere to the highest ethical trading standards. As you can see from my feedback, I’m not a “power” user, but I do buy and sell things from time-to-time and always do so in a trustworthy and forthright manner. I do my best to represent my items accurately and describe them fully to the best of my knowledge. I ship promptly. Good luck bidding and, if you are the winning bidder, I will do my best to get you the truck ASAP according to your instructions and preferences. I am confident that you will find the items as pictured and described. VEHICLE DETAILSI love this truck! It is fun to drive and can carry an incredible array of sporting gear (surfboards, mountain bikes, skis/snowboards…you name it!) and still have room for family or friends! Though I’ve only rarely had it off paved roads (and then just on normal dirt roads for hiking, camping, etc.), it’s nice to have the certainty of legendary Toyota 4x4 power and clearance. This Cruiser turns heads and I routinely receive wonderful compliments. For years, it has been my weekend drive, has a clear and clean California title, and has always been fully registered and insured. It most recently passed tight California smog emissions limits in October 2013. I am (reluctantly) selling it because I am moving across the country and can’t take it with me. Please note that I am still driving the vehicle so the final mileage at time of sale will be slightly more than 190,601 (though likely less than 190,700). Please contact me if you want the latest mileage reading. NOTABLE UPGRADES / EXTRAS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 5-speed Toyota OEM manual transmissionARB front bumper/bullbarOld Man Emu medium-duty suspension (complete suspension is Old Man Emu)32” x 11.5” R15 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires mounted on American Racing black rims (including a matching spare)Slider-style rear windows in the cargo area that look great and open to provide excellent ventilation when parked (especially nice when camping or at the beach)Distinctive Australian side rear-view mirrors (these are Toyota OEM mirrors rarely seen on FJ60s)A power sunroof that works like a charm (no leaks)Professionally-tinted windows. Tinting done by T.L.C. Sales & Service in Van Nuys, CA when I purchased the vehicle and they are still good as the day they were done (all windows except driver and front-passenger door and, of course, windshield)A police-style, swivel spotlight on the driver A-beam (great for camping and looking for addresses and side-roads in areas without street lighting)An internal cargo bin inside the cargo area (great for storing loose gear!)2” trailer hitchAlpine single-CD, removable faceplate AM/FM stereo with iPod hook-up in the glove box (when connected, the iPod can be controlled through the stereo)An extra set of heavy-duty floor and cargo mats (that have been in place throughout my 14-years of ownership so the condition of the interior carpet and cargo mat/carpeting is excellent)Heavy duty, made-to-measure seat covers for the front seats (that have been in place throughout my 14-years of ownership so the condition of the seats are excellent)Original shop manuals in like-new condition: Chassis/Body manual, 2F Engine manual, and 2F Engine Emission Control manualABOUT THE VEHICLE: 1987 was the final production year of the FJ60 – the last wagon-style Cruiser with classic round headlights and a manual transmission to be imported into the U.S. The truck sits up proudly on a complete Old Man Emu Medium Duty suspension and 32x11.5 R15 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires. Fantastic power from the original 2F gasoline engine (4.2L I6 2BBL) and excellent highway cruising, too, thanks to a 5-speed manual Toyota transmission. You read correctly!...this vehicle has a 5-speed stick rather than the standard 4-speed usually seen in FJ60s. The low end is equally low, but the truck cruises at ~500RPM lower revolutions at highway speeds making highway cruising much more pleasant. It is an OEM Toyota transmission that was brand new when it was installed by Mudrak Custom Cruisers in Sonoma, CA in December 2003. The truck had roughly 150,000 miles at the time and 40,000 miles later it shifts as smooth as ever and the engine doesn’t miss a beat! I am (to my knowledge) the third owner of this FJ60 that, apparently, was once owned by a vintner in Calistoga, CA. I bought the truck from T.L.C. Sales & Service in Van Nuys, CA (mainstays in the Toyota Land Cruiser community) in December 1999 when it had 124,000 miles after it was traded in by its owner at that time who resided in Southern California. I bought the truck while I was living in Atlanta and then brought it back to California when I moved here a year-and-a-half later in mid-2001. The truck has primarily served as my weekend and road-trip vehicle and has always been parked in a garage when not in use. As outlined above, it has been religiously serviced and maintained and has some impressive upgrades (see details above).MAINTENANCE HISTORY:I have regularly and fastidiously maintained this vehicle. Additionally, since December 2003 I have had all maintenance performed by Mudrak Custom Cruisers in Sonoma, CA.More on Mudrak (http://www.mudrak.com/): Since meeting Mudrak when I had him do the transmission swap in 2003, his has been the only shop that’s worked on this vehicle. For those of you who don’t know him/his operation, Mudrak is a legend in the Toyota Land Cruiser community and is solely dedicated to the service and restoration of Land Cruisers of all vintages. I can’t say enough good things about him, his shop and the service I’ve received there. If you buy this truck and live in Northern California, I strongly recommend you continue to service the vehicle at Mudrak – you won’t be disappointed and your truck can’t be in better hands.Notable maintenance items beyond regular maintenance include the following:October 2013 (~188,750 miles): Full carburetor rebuild, new manifold gasket, new EGR gaskets, moreMay 2010 (~181,000 miles): New starter, full front axle service, new tie rods, new front brake pads and rotors, moreFebruary 2008 (~175,000 miles): New clutchOctober 2004 (~155,000 miles): New Old Man Emu Medium-Duty suspension, five new 32x11.5 R15 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires mounted on new American Racing 15” black rims, plus other work. Total cost ~$5,100.December 2003 (~150,000 miles): New 5-speed OEM Toyota manual transmission, new transfer case and full overhaul, new starter, new fuel pump, plus other work. Total cost $5,250.Imperfections: As stated above, the vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition and very good condition overall. The exterior and interior are not in show-quality condition, but are very good and exceedingly clean for this vintage. There are, however, some imperfections beyond normal wear that I want to point out:Body rust: Overall, as you can see from the pictures, there is very little rust on the body of this beautiful truck. However, the passenger-side rain-gutter has small patches of rust along its length (see photo). The most significant of these (one at the trailing edge of the rear door and the other at the back corner) are pictured separately with a coin for size reference (see photos). This vehicle has been garage-stored since 2001, but, as a result of these rain-gutter imperfections, if parked outside in prolonged rain the headliner by the passenger front door will get damp. Please note that this has only happened on a couple of occasions due to the fact that the vehicle is only used on the weekends, is garage storage and the last few winters have been very dry. How should this issue be rectified? The inexpensive approach that will work just fine is to have a body shop address the rust patches and then paint the rim of the roof with bed-liner paint. The “right” approach is to have someone like Mudrak replace the roof. That is a big job, but would provide you with a truly pristine, vintage FJ60 in excellent mechanical condition with fantastic extras (5-speed transmission, Old Man Emu suspension, sunroof, rear sliding windows, etc. – see list above). Such Cruisers are rare and worth a very pretty penny indeed!Paint chips: The paint is in excellent condition with very good to excellent luster. There are two paint chips of note – one on the rear of the hood on the passenger side and one on the leading edge of the hood on the driver side. Both of these chips are shown in the photos. There are also a few small chips on the roof, on the trailing edges of the doors, around the grill and on the bumper/bullbar. The side rearview mirrors have some pitting on their stems, as does the police-style spotlight (see photos).Rain-gutter trim: One section of the chrome rain-gutter trim is missing (the passenger-side rear corner piece, see photos)Dings: The only noticeable ding is a dime-sized ding above the door handle of the passenger-side rear door. This ding is pictured and, as you can see from the photo, there is no rust. Beyond this, there are some standard "parking-lot" dings, but they are few and subtle (you have to be at just the right angle with the right lighting to see them)Wheel rust: The wheels are in excellent condition, but there is surface rust on the chrome hub covers and the wheel lugs (see photos for picture of the worst wheel hub cover)ARB bumper/bullbar blemishes: This bullbar was used when I bought it from and had T.L.C. Sales & Service install it when I purchased the vehicle in 2000. It is wonderfully secure and totally solid. As you can see from the pictures, it does have some chips and light scratches. Also, one of the tow eyes below the winch platform is slightly bent, but still completely usable.Interior: The interior is all original and in very good condition for a vehicle of this vintage. The notable blemishes are as follows:Seats: I have always had nice heavy-duty seat covers on the front seats for my 14 years of ownership (that I will be passing along to the next owner, if desired). As a result, the seats are in excellent condition with no cracking or tears beyond a small ¼” wear-patch on the top edge of the passenger seat. There are some faint stains on the fabric that could likely be addressed with a good shampooing (please see photos). The rear bench seat is also in excellent condition and crack/tear-free with the exception of two cracks on the fold-down backrest – one on each side of the seat backrest around the hardware that secures the backrest when upright (the passenger side is the worst in this regard with a tear that is approximately 2.5” long; note that the tear is around the side of the backrest so isn't very visually obvious).Steering wheel and handbrake: The steering wheel has some minor pitting. The handbrake plastic handle is rather heavily pitted (I believe that a prior owner must have had a dog as it appears that the handle has been chewed somewhat).Dashboard: As you can see from the photos, the dash is in excellent condition. There are, however, a few scratches/wear indications around the dashboard controls.Stereo: The stereo (a single-disc Alpine) works wonderfully and is wired to an iPod hook-up in the glove box. The passenger door speakers are good, but the driver door speakers are nearing their end with some cracking/crackling. I use the stereo as is, but replacing the speakers would be a nice upgrade. Note that there are no rear speakers in this vehicle.Air conditioning: The air conditioner works well and keeps the interior cool on a hot day, but doesn't blow ice-cold.Headliner: Some light staining/discoloration in areas and minor blemishes, but nothing that draws attention. Headliner is completely secure/tight and without rips (see photo).Cargo area: The thick covers over the rear wheel wells have some small nicks. The fabric cover of the tailgate needs a new plastic clip to secure the driver-side top cover more firmly. It stays up and in-place just fine, but isn’t 100% snug at that corner. The driver-side rear sliding window does not have its integrated insect screen, but the passenger-side slider does so ventilation is possible even if parked/camping in an area with mosquitoes, etc. PAYMENT, SHIPPING AND OTHER IMPORTANT ITEMS ABOUT THE AUCTION/PURCHASE PROCESSSales tax: Buyer to pay vehicle state sales tax when they register the vehicle. Sales tax rates are determined by where buyer lives/where the vehicle will be registered.Shipping: Buyer is responsible for arranging shipping and will incur all shipping charges. However, I know an excellent auto shipping company and am happy to provide an introduction if that’s of interest.Payment: A deposit in the amount of $500 is required 24 hours after the auction has ended. The remaining balance is to be paid no later than 72 hours (3 days) after the end of the auction by bank-to-bank wire or cashier’s check.More photos: If you want to see additional pictures, please email me and I will provide a link to a more comprehensive set of photos (eBay limits listings to 24 photos).Questions? If you have any additional questions, please click the “Ask Seller a Question” link at the top or bottom of this page to send me an email. I check my email regularly and will do my best to respond promptly and will be especially vigilant during the last couple hours of the auction. However, please don’t wait until the last-minute to ask questions or to bid. I’d hate to see you miss out if I can’t respond quickly enough. THANKS FOR LOOKING, THANKS FOR BIDDING, AND GOOD LUCK!!!On Jun-24-14 at 14:47:51 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE FROM THE SELLER: IT'S GREAT TO SEE ALL OF THE INTEREST IN MY CRUISER! THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE BID OR WHO ARE WATCHING THE AUCTION. I want to ensure that the winning bidder is 100% in the know and excited about their purchase! As such, I wanted to add a few additional points re vehicle condition that have come up in Q&A with interested bidders so that everyone has the best and most complete information possible:Oil leaks: As is very common with FJ60s, the engine does leak some oil. It is minor, but I do keep a piece of cardboard under the engine in my garage and there are always some drips after operation.Wheel balance: At highway speeds (60MPH+) there is some vibration from the wheels. This has always been the case and I understand is typical with the larger 32" x 11.5" tires. I find that this gradually worsens over time and then is largely remedied by an occasional wheel balance (though I've yet to meet a tire shop that gets the balance on these large tires 100% perfect).Smog: As mentioned, the vehicle has always been registered and has always passed smog in California (most recently in Oct-2013). Passing smog, however, has historically required some fine-tuning adjustments. This is why I had the carb rebuilt last fall and that plus the usual fine-tuning enabled the vehicle to pass with a comfortable margin (prior to the carb rebuild, the passing margin was smaller). I hope that this helps. If you are a seriously interested in this FJ60 and have questions, please feel free to give me a call. My name is Curtis and my phone is 415-254-6133 (serious bidders/would-be bidders only, please). Of course, asking questions by sending me a message is totally fine, too, and I will do my best to get back to you promptly. THANKS!On Jun-26-14 at 10:28:45 PDT, seller added the following information: I have received a couple questions about the sunroof so I wanted to pass along the same information to everyone:The sunroof was already installed when I bought the vehicle in 2000. I believe it is aftermarket as I've never seen one in another FJ60.The sunroof itself and the installation are clearly both of high-quality. It works well and doesn't leak. People are surprised to learn it's aftermarket because it's such a clean/tight integration. The glass is tinted and can tilt up at the back as well as retract fully. When it retracts, it slides into the roof between the roof and the headliner for a nice clean look and zero interference with roof racks. A pop-up wind-deflector ensures passenger comfort when driving with the sunroof opened. It has a manual interior shade that slides in/out of the roof (between the headliner and the roof for a clean look) that can be closed to keep the interior cool on a hot day.It is power-operated. Very occasionally, the sunroof won't fully retract when opening on the first push of the button and I need to push it again. I think this could be addressed by cleaning the tracks on which the sunroof slides and, likely, applying a little lubrication. Additionally, one of the fasteners on the driver-side track arm came out years back and I replaced it with a small set screw that fits a little loose. I keep an eye on it, but it's never caused me any issues.Overall: The sunroof operates well, doesn't leak and is a very nice feature. It lets in light on cool days and breeze/sunlight when open on nice days. I hope this helps and, once again, please feel free to call me if you are a serious bidder and have any questions. THANKS FOR ALL OF THE INTEREST! On Jun-27-14 at 10:20:44 PDT, seller added the following information: QUICK BIDDING UPDATE: The previous high-bidder, 1tradervic, contacted me to inform me that he had a change of heart. I want whoever wins this auction to be super-happy with the truck and I have no desire to sell to someone who's uncomfortable with the purchase. So, I agreed to cancel his bid. The good news for everyone bidding is that the price is back down to $7,100! THANKS, AGAIN, FOR THE ALL OF THE INTEREST...FEEL FREE TO CALL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS...AND HAPPY BIDDING!
