Vehicle Detail

Here's a great little VW fiberglass dune buggy. Street legal, titled and built on a 1970 chassis. Has the original 1600 motor and 4 spd. The body is the best I've seen, with no cracks or flaws, and has the unusual and very hard to find removable hardtop. Front end rebuilt 2 years ago with all new ball joints and tie rod ends. Steering is precise and firm, with no wander or slop. Has good radials with lots of tread. White wagon wheels with caps.Very nice comfortable interior with black bucket seats in nice shape (shown with covers). Seat belts front and rear. Has green AstroTurf floor covering from way back... probably built in the mid-seventies. Gauges work. I believe mileage to be accurate and original to time of build. I've put a couple thousand on it.Has newer Grant steering wheel.Functioning wipers, turn signals, parking lights, high beams, and E-brake. Comes with snap-on side cover windows.Could use a fine adjustment on the brakes, and the carb needs a cleaning. Has an idle problem now and then. Seems to be improving with driving. Just drove it 50 miles the other day. Shifts easily with good clutch. Starts easily hot or cold. Will cruise all day, and go past 75 mph on the highway.Car has been garaged since built. 2 previous senior long time owners, I'm the 3rd and have owned about 8 years.Tow bar included, tow home or drive if you don't mind the breeze! Hard to find in this condition. This car would be quite a looker with the right wheel and tire combo. Feel free to inspect and test drive before end of auction.Fun and smiles everywhere you go! Paypal deposit of $500 required within 24 hours of listing end. " Full payment required within 7 days of auction close. Wire transfer preferred." Paypal fees to be covered by buyer if used. If you do not understand or agree with the listing terms of sale, or do not wish to make a deposit transaction, then, by all means, don't bid on this vehicle. I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time, as this vehicle is for sale locally. On Jun-11-14 at 20:11:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Titled as 1970 VW Beetle Convertible. On Jun-11-14 at 20:15:40 PDT, seller added the following information: The vehicle is garaged in SE Michigan, about 60 miles from Detroit, or Metro Airport. Located near Howell, Mi 48843On Jun-13-14 at 17:43:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Correction: Vehicle titled as "Roadster" (same thing)... weight 1350. You will have to research your own shipping fees and rates, I'm sorry, I can't provide that info. Can drive vehicle to meet car hauler, or drive on trailer here.On Jun-14-14 at 12:39:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Drove around a little today, front brakes pulling to right, will adjust to even out. At this point I would not feel good about someone driving this home, until I can sort out the adjustments. This car has original drum brakes all around. If I were to keep it, I would upgrade to a disc system in front. Parts for these VWs are very reasonable. You can buy a complete conversion for just over $300. I'm not sure what direction the next owner will take this car. May be a good time to upgrade to discs, and change over bolt pattern to 5 lug. Also noticed speedo needle shaking above 45, must need lube. Carb still acting funny... probably needs a clean up or rebuild, its the original style. Has kind of a hokey air intake for the filter too, consisting of curved PVC. It was there when I bought it, seems to work OK. The value of this vehicle is mostly in the quality and condition of the body. All these other things can be modified or sorted out as you can afford, or find time to do. This is a 40 year old car, which at times needs attention as will any car this age. On Jun-16-14 at 13:34:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Checked the buggy out today, saw brake fluid on LF wheel. No wonder it was pulling. Going to try and replace the wheel cylinder. It wouldn't be good to try and drive this home. If I don't get it done, I will work with you, and make an adjustment to the final price of the vehicle to compensate for the brake work. Added new pics, noticed a hole in passenger rear corner in pan, and another midpoint driver-center side. Other than that, it looks pretty good. As you can see in the pics I live on a dirt road. I don't drive this vehicle as much as I should, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised when this happens. If any of this makes you squeamish, or you have second thoughts if you have already bid, I will be happy to cancel and retract your bids. I'm not representing this as a restored show car, but an original vintage kit car built in the 70's. BTW, I've looked for a manufacturers plate, or badge, I can't find one anywhere. If you know of this brand, let me know. Also the metal VIN tag is riveted to the body up underneath in the rear. Keep the questions coming if you need answers. Sorry for the confusion. On Jun-18-14 at 11:26:05 PDT, seller added the following information: Going to pick up a wheel cylinder this afternoon, and try to replace tonite or tomorrow. We've had some unexpected events come up which may not allow me to devote as much time as I should to this car. I was looking at the engine, and saw that this is a Dual Port setup. I think the carb is a 2Bbl Weber/Holley R 7760. Feeds into a 2 into 1 reducer. I'm sorry for the confusion. I'm offering this car on a "As Is, Where Is" basis. It is drivable, and should be good to stop if I get the wheel cylinder done. As far as the carb, it may need a rebuild. It's almost as if the idle jet may be plugged a little. Seems to go good once you get into it. Thank you to all the great car buffs who have corresponded. On Jun-20-14 at 04:51:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Wheel cylinder replaced without too much trouble. Stopping pretty good, but trying to even out the brakes. The old VWs have an adjuster for each shoe up front, kind of tricky. A disc kit would resolve that issue. Discovered the speedo cable runs off the left front wheel. And forgot that I had installed new shocks up front with rebuild. Will try and load a few more pics on here. I have some interest from local buyers. On Jun-20-14 at 14:11:01 PDT, seller added the following information: A few more pics from yesterday.
