Vehicle Detail
I have owned this ’81 Fiat Spider 2000 for 17 years, since 1997. It's an excellent rust-free example, since it's from Phoenix, Arizona where I used to live, before I brought it with me to California in 1998. I owned another Fiat Spider when I bought this, but when I saw this one, I knew I had to buy it. Not only is it the nicest Fiat Spider I had ever seen, it is (or was) a very rare Legend turbo Spider. I bought it from the original owner, who was elderly, no longer drove it and kept covered it in his garage. The car was not running when I bought it. I did not know what problem it had at the time, but I bought it anyhow and later found out it was because the turbo was seized. Not only that, but the special rubber turbo-specific intake hose was shot, and a replacement was not available. Therefore, I had my mechanic remove the turbo plumbing and convert the car back to normal aspiration (and sold off the turbo parts, which were of no use to me). After the conversion to stock, the car ran like a top. Still does. The car has less than 36,000 miles on it. It has been a great car. I drive it to work a couple of times a year, but mostly just enjoy it on the weekends to get coffee or groceries when the sun is out. Otherwise, it stays in the garage. Over the years, I’ve done regular maintenance on wear items, such as engine belts, brakes, shocks (has Konis currenty), catalytic converter, and exhaust. It has new tires as of October, 2013, with less than 500 miles on them. When I bought the car, it had a decent respray in the original color. It had a vinyl top that was functional for a few years, and then I had it replaced with a nice canvas one, which still looks great. It has a ‘90s-era Nakamichi CD deck; I would replace that if I were keeping the car. There are a few dings and scratches here and there, but the car looks great. This is an honest, original, unmolested, unrestored ’81 Fiat Spider. I have not seen a better one, ever. Nobody has put ugly door moldings on it, or drilled holes in the trunk lid to mount a rust-prone rack of dubious value. The interior has not been redone, and the seats have no rips or holes. Please see pictures here and let me know if you have any questions.
