FOR SALE1986 BMW 535i E28 5speedFULL SUSPENSION REFRESH, NEW COILOVERS, RARE EURO PARTS, MINT M5 INTERIOR & MORE! 1986 BMW 535i E28 Euro I have for sale a beautiful example of a fully euro converted BMW 535i E28.This is the more rare 535i and it is a manual 5 speed. Most E28s were automatic, and more commonly 528e version. The story of this car started as a very clean stock example of a US version 535i with a binder of maintenance recordsdating back to almost the beginning. All maintenance records have been recorded and will be included in the purchase. The car came as alpine white exterior with cardinal red interior featuring comfort seats and power everything. I am an aircraft mechanic professionally and restore/build older BMWs in my free time. After purchasing the car in St. Louiswith 240k miles I drove it all the way down to Savannah Ga without any hiccups. Drove great with tons of power, never overheating,and great on gas mileage. Once I got it back to savannah I began to do a complete inspection and even though this had such a great documented history, with all its bushings and ball joints recently replaced within the last 30k miles. I decided to start with a clean slate. Ordered all new bushings, ball joints, control arms, end links, tie rods, idler arm, pitman arm, subframe connecting arms, andbrand new BC weld in coilovers. Everything was replaced brand new and alignment done immediately after. While I was under the car I replaced rear sway bar end links, and fuel filter. Next I was on the hunt for all REAL OEM BMW euro parts. After a long time and 1000s of dollars. I was able to get rid of all theugly US spec parts, and build a euro converted E28. The list of parts below is what comes on the car. -Chrome Euro bumpers-Euro headlights w/ grills-Euro headlight washers w/ spray nozzle (motors are present but not hooked up)-Complete mint condition Taurusrot M5 interior including manual sport seats (not terrible electric)-Electric seat center console delete-M5 black headliner-Euro M5 side mirrors with driver side blindspot in mirror-Euro OBC computer in german-Euro overhead computer checker in german-Euro heating/air conditioning panel in german and Celsius-Euro fog lamp panel with dedicated front and rear fog light switch and headlight leveling switch (not hooked up)-Rare Euro rear headrests-Euro M5 shadowline tail lights (OEM)-Euro Black trunk liner and toolbox kit with all tools/extra lightbulbs, & microfiber BMW towel.-Mason Engineering Strut Bar Other Goodies:-Full suspension refresh-New BC Coilovers (<200 miles)-Stoptech Stainless Steel Brake Lines-Caliper refresh and painted with high temp silver paint.-Full boston acoustic sound system with dedicated amps for speakers and amp for 10" subwoofer under rear seat.-LIFETIME subscription of XM Sirius radio included.-All Maint records with Car (HUGE BINDER FULL)-5 or 6 extra oil Filters-1 extra can of freon-3 extra engine belts-20mm spacers on front wheels-Chrome E36 DS2 wheels with good tires (wheels have some corrosion)-Original owners manual-Fresh oil change-Fresh Brake fluid flush-Power steering flush and bled. The gauge cluster is in perfect working condition. A lot of times the gears go bad in these. Odometer reads 249k miles. But dont letthat scare you with the amount of maint that has gone into it. New gaskets everywhere, mustang 5.0 injectors, rebuilt MAF flapper. I wouldnt be nervous to drive this car anywhere. I drove it from St. Louis, Missouri all the way to savannah. I have taken trips toJacksonville and back with no problems. This is a great running car, in excellent condition, with an excellent service history, not to mention the amount of rare german parts.I have never received so many compliments on the interior. Good condition E28 535i's in manual are becoming harder and harder to come by. As stated above this car comes with a very thorough maintenance history. The previous owner went even as far to include a CDROM of his maint records and pictures of trips he has taken with it along the way. This is a very cool car. Always adult owned and taken care of by BMW enthusiasts. Paint/BodyThe paint and body of this car is in great condition. There is no rust that I have found on the car as I was replacing all of the suspension components and adding the euro parts. There is a little bit of surface rust where the 4 jacking points are on the car. This is due to jack stands over the 20 some odd years. The body is very straight. There are very very minor dings and scratches on it, once again from being an older car. The ones that are on there are so minor they could be buffed out no problem. The paint is original paint! yay! I think it shines pretty darn good when you clean it all up, but i did not sit there and take the time to buff it out. Im sure it could look even better than it already does. Electrical:All of the electrical on this car works. All 4 power windows work, the gauges all work. As many of you know E28s and all older BMWs/Mercedes of this era have little plastic gears inside, and over time they get brittle, break, and your gauges stop working. These gears have been changed out. The odometer and speedometer all work great. The odometer now reads 248,594. The rear antenna has a cut out switch wired into it, which is pretty cool, so it does not automatically go up every time you turn on the radio. Since it has a LIFETIME subscription to XM, I dont like having the rear antenna always waving in the wind. The german OBC works, but the light bar is becoming a little dim at night. These light bars are VERY VERY easy to replace and can be done so for about 15 bucks. The beautiful M5 seats are now MANUAL! yay. Anyone that has owned an E28/E23 have known the electric seats in these things are crap. Everything is manual now and all the gears greased up and work great. Suspension:This has had the biggest overhaul. EVERYTHING is brand new. This includes: thurst arms with bushings and ball joints, aluminum M5 control arms with bushings and ball joints, tie rod assys, center tie rod, pitman arm, idler arm, sway bar end links, rear sway bar end links, subframe bushings, differential bushings and brand new BC 32 way adjustable coilovers with camber plates. All of this listed components have LESS THAN 200 miles on them. This is not a daily driver for me so its not going to rack up miles. Engine:I have owned a couple E28s now and they ALWAYS have problems with vacuum leaks. I went through all the lines and replaced all the cracked and heat soaked vacuum lines. The engine has a new valve cover gaskets and the valves were adjusted not too long ago. The belts are all in great condition with no cracks (3 new belts included with sale). Radiator, water pump, thermostat were all replaced not too long ago. Before me, but in the maint history. The exhaust has a new OEM catback on it. All the fluid levels are good and no leaks. Transmission:Wow, this thing is awesome. The clutch feels very firm, and it shifts absolutely great. The clutch, flywheel and various other components were replaced not too long ago and is included in the receipts with the main history. The shifter has a little play, like all these E28s. The little shifter bushing could probably be replaced to tighten that up, but it never really bothered me. Brakes:For some reason these brakes feel better than my 2003 330ci!. Very firm, grab tight. I removed all the brake components. I cleaned all the calipers and then shot them with high temp silver paint. I also replaced the brake lines with STOPTECH Stainless Steel Brake lines. Performed a full DOT4 brake fluid flush. HVAC:The heater works very well in this car. Remember on the E28s, HEAT NEVER CAME THROUGH THE FRONT VENTS ONLY THE LEG VENTS. remember that so dont freak out when no heat comes out...dont yell at me yell at BMW. AIR CONDITIONING....everyone asks about air conditioning...try enjoying it with the windows down! haha. just my personal pref. BUT yes the AC does work, BUT its not charged. I have not charged it because I dont use it. And why would you want to? Just robbing the HP from your M30 Engine. The AC has NOT been converted to R134A. I have a can of the older freon i will include with the sale. That about sums it up. This is a beautiful car and by far one of the best ones ive built. The parts are amazing, and REAL OEM BMW, not these chinese knockoff crap. I have looked on craigslist and looked on ebay, and I cant find a nicer 535i...not to toot my own horn. This is a great car and a great cruiser. Dont let the mileage scare you at all. Anyone that knows BMWs will know that if its well taken care of (which it has been and I have proof), these cars will last a long time. I had no problem taking a 12 hour trip from St. Louis Mo, to Savannah GA when i first bought it! before i even went through it. Since then I have take trips all over and its never failed me.
