Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is an excellent example of a gentleman's touring motorcycle; one I would not hesitate to throw a leg over and ride anywhere. While I will attempt to list the noteworthy items; both good and bad, as well as recent servicing information, know that there are many minor items that have been addressed (that most people wouldn't even do) in the interest of making the bike as nice as possible. It is by no means perfect, but I feel it is a nice, reliable motorcycle for the the reserve I have set. This is a great looking bike that does not leak a DROP of oil. It runs like a dream and sounds great to boot. Serial numbers match on engine and frame, and are correct for the model and vintage. Let the pictures speak for themselves but ask questions if you have them. DISCREPANCIES: -Odometer was fixed in 2005 with 39,972 miles showing. New odometer shows 7,149 miles so total mileage is 47,121. -While there is ample tread on both tires, and they appear to be in good condition, they are a few years old, and should probably be replaced if you are going to tour or ride aggressively. -The voltmeter needle jumps around a bit more than it does on my other BMW motorcycle. I'm not sure why; it could be because it is mounted in a separate "pod", which seems to vibrate a bit more. To be on the safe side, I checked the voltage at the battery with a digital multimeter while the engine was running, and the charging system appears to be working correctly. It has the "red" newer style voltage regulator that was added at some point within the past 10 years. -There was some fuel that was stored in the tank longer than it should have been so the tank lining has bubbled up. The good news is that the petcocks were off so the float bowls were clean and dry and the tank doesn't leak. I flushed out the tank, cleaned the fuel strainers and put in fresh fuel and it started right up and has run perfectly ever since. I suppose one could reline it, something I have done on other bikes I own, but was told by the BMW dealer to not bother and instead put Marvel Mystery Oil in it to prevent rust. -No tool kit, but tire pump is there as well as the owners manual. RECENTLY DONE: -New AGM battery -All fluids changed: forks, brakes, engine, transmission, drive shaft, final drive -New air and oil filter -Grease input splines and final drive -Grease and adjust swing arm -New choke cables DONE WITHIN THE PAST 10 YEARS -Works Shocks -Dyna III ignition -1977 R100RS front end installed (to get dual disc brakes) -1980 R100RT transmission installed (easier to get replacement parts for and stronger) was rebuilt @ apx. 32,100 miles -Top end resealed -Carbs rebuilt -New con-rod bearings -New sub frame -Odometer/instrument cluster serviced with new instrument cluster case -Seat pan powder coated and seat recovered -New crank case breather -New steering damper -New voltage regulator OTHER ITEMS WORTH MENTIONING: -Dual plugged heads (currently being run as single plug heads but one could purchase the correct coils and do the upgrade.) -Lester Mag wheels -Stainless steel brake lines -Large capacity engine oil sump -Crash bars (included but not installed) -Back rest (included but not installed) -Hard bags (missing key) -Windshield -Voltmeter -Clock-plug in near seat for heated vest, pants, navigation, etc The fine print: -Sold "AS IS" with no warranty (after all, it is 38 years old) -If the reserve is met, and you are the winning bidder, you bought it. No driveway negotiations. If you have questions, ask before you bid or come look at it. -Cash sale only, buyer pick-up only. I can't ship but have ramps and will be more than happy to help load. Can deliver within a limited radius on a per mile basis. Let me know where you are coming from. -Sold with Vt. bill of sale only, no title needed if the vehicle is more than 10 years old
