I bought this bike for $2,000 in Jan 2011 with 20,000 miles off an older gentleman who said he was the second owner. It had been sitting in his garage uncovered for ten years. The paint was dull, clear coat was flaking on all decals, turn signals were droopy, windscreen was fogged, had original tires on it, few scratches, but low miles for this size engine and zero rust. I have treated this bike like I was gona keep it forever and I planned on it until, I rode a Yamaha V-Max. Now Im selling and looking for an older V max. Instead of trying to match the original paint or change the color of the bike I sold all the plastics and the gas tank on Ebay. I purchased original Honda Parts off Ebay to restore bike the best I could. I paid $360 for an original gas tank with a few small flaws, there are 3 or 4 small areas on gas tank where the paint has been touched up. I put close up pics for you to see. The gas tank is spotless inside, zero rust. The fairing cost $400 and has a couple of touch up spots, see pictures, no cracks, the nicest one I could find on Ebay. The windscreen is very nice, no blemishes. Front fender is nice but has one small scrape on front from my sons BMX bike scraping it, The right engine cover has a round worn spot where there used to be a full fairing on this bike. Never bothered painting it, see picsthe left side cover is perfect original piece, I paid $175 fot it. all tabs no cracks. the right side cover is an Italian version of the 1984 VF1000 and is brand new old stock but the colors are reversed. I paid $200, looks cool, see pictures. I couldnt find an original right one in perfect condition. I couldnt find a lower fairing in nice condition so I had an original one painted red for $160 to match with new decals that were pricy. All four turn signal were purchased seperately on Ebay,I sold the droopy ones and didnt realize how hard they were to find original ones. some are nicer than others but all original Honda Parts. It Is extremely fast but kinda sounded like a sewing machine before I bought Kerkers. I still have original exhaust but please check out my video and listen to this bike with kerkers on it. they dont sell kerkers for this bike anymore and are very hard to find. I got these on Ebay for $400 and havnt seen another pair on there in 3 years. At the end off last riding season I put a Podium front tire $150. I just put a Coni Trail Attack Tire $160 on rear. They had great reviews. The Chain and sprockets were replaced about two years ago. Over the winter I put in a new battery, changed radiator fluid, changed oil and filter, new spark plugs, new air filter, new fuel filter, bled both brakes with new fluid, bled clutch with new fluid, brakes look good, replaced rear rotor is new off a low mile Interceptor. I had carbs cleaned in 2008 when I purchased bike $350, I run 100 Octane overy other gas tank and use Lucas fuel system cleaner to keep carbs clean, and they are. It shifts through the gears as it should and has no mechanical issues at all. The gas gauge even works. I rode a couple of years with out it working. It has the original blue seat with 1000 logo, no tears, no rips, nice. i also have another seat that goes with it I had recovered in red and black. Comes with the original complete tool kit that fits under seat and a Clymer Service Manuel. Just passed inspection last week and is registered with a clean title in hand. two keys, This is a lot of bike and wouldnt recomend as your first bike. I did my best to be extremely thorough in my description, I used a quality digital camera so you should be able to see all the small flaws just fine. feel free to ask questions.
