Vehicle Detail

This wagon has served my family well for years. My wife and I purchased it from it's previous owner who lovingly maintained it. He parked it in the center of a locked, two car garage. We heard it run, and bought it where it sat without even a test drive. It never let us down, and got admiring stares wherever it went. Some time later I found the 540 nosed one and acquired it as a back-up for parts, or a possible fixer upper. (the "540" white one is really a 525 as well - there were no 540 wagons in '92...sheetmetal treatment only) After years of faithful service, we gave it to our son for his first car on his 16th birthday. (He was pretty stoked by that - even being a wagon.) While in his second year of college, and still driving the car he had driven since the beginning; my son, while stopped waiting for traffic to clear, was rear ended in the wagon. He was hit with such speed and force, the wagon was slammed into the rear bumper of the box truck in front of him. Four skid marks from the braked tires were visible on the pavement. The damage you see in the photos is what happened that fateful day. He exited the BMW via a functioning door, without the Jaws of Life, or paramedic assistance. A mild bit of whiplash was the only injury he sustained. The damage to the 525i body is extensive. Once the accident was cleared, our wounded, Bavarian, guardian angel started right up, and drove off the roadway without assistance or towing. It has been speculated, (but in no way checked or verified), that due to the inline nature of the impacts, along with the bumper localized damage areas, that the unibody structure may be relatively unharmed. For quite some time we wrestled with the idea of repairing the vehicle that had given the ultimate sacrifice; for so many reasons...the protection of our only child, the times spent in it traveling together as a family, the night we saw it for the first time, gleaming alone in the center of a two car, locked and spotless garage. Fond memories that have kept many other BMWs at our household over the years and will continue to do so. Sadly, we have never been able to give back the life to our best friend that gave its all for us...so here we are at the crossroad hoping for a miracle. As I have said in previous ads, the thought of crushing a vehicle is spiritually painful for me. The thought of that fate to this car, I simply don't have words to describe how it affects me. So, in an effort to preserve and resuscitate, I hope to find a BMW enthusiast who will shower some love and care on this worthy steed. What I propose here is not the way to yield quick and maximum dollars for what's left. If that's what you have in mind, it's OK, but please spare me the story of your intent. I hope someone will either make it whole again or save others with the parts. The wheels alone will bring a decent sum, and there are a number of outstanding components on both cars. How you choose to proceed is of course up to you, but there is a ray of hope that this is a do-able, live and jump and scream again project in the right and capable hands. If this is you, and your mission, please send us the occasional photo of the resurrection. It would mean a lot to us. I can say with some degree of certainty that "ALL THE PARTS ARE NOT HERE TO FINISH A CAR". Most, I would imagine, yes, but know that some will additionally have to be sourced. As stated previously in the ad; I think both engines are not stuck but need head gaskets at the very least. I think both remaining drivelines are good. I cannot verify or be certain of either of those assessments. If you have specific questions about either or both wagons ask, and I will do my very best to provide you with an answer if possible. And again, BOTH of these are in NON-RUNNING condition and will have to be towed at the auction winners expense. Paypal only. Neither car runs; both sold as is. Buyer is responsible for pick up/ transport of the cars, and all cost of the transport. $300 deposit via Paypal due within 24 hours of auction end and is not refundable. Car should be picked up within 15 days from the end of the auction, unless other arrangements are made.
