Vehicle Detail
1980 Pontiac Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car Exterior- Built in California. Excellent condition, rust free, spent most of its life in the SW states. White paint is original, and still shines nicely for 24 years old. The grey portion was repainted at some point, and is in very nice shape. Decals appear to be all original. It does have a few minor dings here and there. Mirrored T-tops are in excellent condition. All spoliers and ground effects are in place and undamaged. The trunk is phenomenal condition, and retains its original black carpet with mini-spare and jack. Wheels are in nice shape, as are the tires. All lights, signals and unique hood turbo boost lights work as original. Interior- Excellent condition or better. Original dash is uncracked, which rare for a car that spent is life primarily in sunny states. The seats are in excellent condition without any tears or damage. Door panels are in excellent condition without any type of damage. Carpet is brand new, and now matches the rest of the clean interior. New padding was installed at time of carpet, and it was truly amazing how nice the floors were. Console is in excellent condition without any splits or burns. Headliner is in remarkable condition. Steering wheel is newly restored leather, in correct color. All interior panels look brand new. All lights and switches function, and are in excellent condition. The radio works. It doesnt smell or appear like the car has been extensively smoked in. Chassis- Undercarriage is in excellent condition, without and kind of rust issues. It drives without any kind of clunk, vibration, or issue. Mechanical- New battery installed. Appears to have had an MSD ignition installed at some point. I'm told it is a great benefit on these turbo cars, but it can be easily removed if someone wants it completely original under the hood. The car starts easily, and runs and drives good. Turbo makes boost. It doesnt blow any oil, and it doesnt even have any of the normal leaks you would expect with a car of this age. It is probably due for a tune up. The power antenna is froze., it may need replacing, but works fine as is. It has a new battery. A/C blows cold. Overall- This is a nice example of a rare car that is gaining popularity. It isnt what I would consider a World of Wheels or Autorama level car, nor is the price. It is a nice cruise night level car, with an excellent foundation if you ever chose to restore it in full. I would keep the car like it is, and enjoy it. Other projects need funding and it forces the sale of this car. Very reasonable reserve, bid to win.
