Vehicle Detail
Abarth started making their own cars in the late 50s based on the rear engined Fiat 600. The Abarth Zagato Double Bubble is one of the more famous cars from this era. Along with making their own body fitted on the Fiat 600 chassis, Abarth also modified existing Fiat 600 cars with the stock body. These cars are not to be confused with the 1000TC cars that came out a few years later with the fiberglass spoilers, front radiator, etc. These early suicide door Abarth Berlinas came equipped in a variety of ways. Some had standard brakes, others had upgraded oversized drums. However, they all had the Abarth 750 motors , Jaeger tachometer (distributor driven) , Abarth badges and trim, rear decklid props, header, and a few other options. I bought this car a while back intending to finish this restoration. That is not going to happen now and I'm passing this car along to the next enthusiast. It is currently in mid restoration. The previous owner did all the body work on the car and fully disassembled it. There is no rust on this car. The body panels are very straight. It is in primer ready to be painted. When the floorboards were repaired, the previous owner used flat sheet metal instead of using aftermarket stamped pans. That would be the one thing I would change on the body-an easy and inexpensive fix. This car has the original, numbered, (NOT reproduction) front Abarth grill, whiskers, swallow hood emblem, and rear decklid Abarth badge. The front fender badges and dash badge are missing. One clue when looking for an original Abarth is to look for holes in the body panels where Abarth parts were used. The trim holes in the front fenders, hood, dash (tach), rear decklid, and large cutout for the Abarth header exhaust are all present on this car. The rear decklid brackets are gone but the factory holes are still present as is the larger exhaust hole for the Abarth header exhaust. The door glass, side glass, and rear glass are all good. No windshield. The Abarth aluminum window trim is there. Unfortunately the original Abarth engine in this car is long gone. It probably blew up racing as many Abarth motors did. It is extremely rare to find a matching number Abarth car as many were raced and modified thru the years. I am including a stock Fiat 600 motor and transmission with this sale. They look complete with no major parts missing. I would assume they will need to be fully rebuilt. There are many ways to modifiy these cars for more speed including using later model Fiat motors. Many enthusiasts may say that an Abarth without its engine is hardly an Abarth. That would only be somewhat true. However, I have a solution for the true Abarth enthusiast. NOT included in this sale but available separately is an Abarth AH block and crankshaft. These parts are available to the winning bidder for $4500. The AH block is stamped Tipo 217/041. This block is set up with the Bialbero twin cam drive although it could easily go back to pushrod. According to the numbers is was built for an Abarth Allemano and has a displacement of 833cc. The crankshaft is stamped 220 021 and would have gone in a Bialbero twincam motor although it could be used on a pushrod engine. The last four pictures on this auction show the engine and crank. Remeber, they are not included in this auction. The suspension was removed from this car and some parts were powder coated. All parts are boxed and labeled. There are some extra suspension parts and other trim included in the sale. No seats with this car. Google up how to build your own Abarth replica seats. With the suspension off , this car doesn't roll or steer-I have built a dolly that I will include with the car. I will strap the car to the dolly so it can be transported. All parts will be securely fastened inside. This car would be a very rewarding project. Abarths have increased greatly in value recently. Plus, this little hot rod Abarths are a blast to drive. I'm selling this car the same way I bought it-with a bill of sale. I know that many states and exporting a car require additional paperwork. For a fee, I will get this car registered in my name here in Georgia and that paperwork will be good for all states including title states and export. This process includes a police vin verification, insuring the car, and paying for a years registration. Please email me for any questions. Lots of spares are included with this car. Please email me for a link to many more pictures of this car and its parts.
