Vehicle Detail
For Auction: 1952 Ford Crestline Sunliner. Two-Door Convertible. This beautiful open-top car has always been a Colorado car. I am the third or fourth owner from new. Re-furbished by Classic Touch Interiors over the last three years. Car has always been Alpine Blue w/Black & Red interior. I'm told that car was purchased by A. Landis of Denver in 1952. It is unknown if he bought the Sunliner new or used in 1952. He drove the Sunliner until 2005 and sold it to D. Wright, a Fifties Ford collector. Mr. Wright stored it in his garage until 2011 and then sold it to me. I had the car re-furbished to it's current condition. Car looks fabulous! Photos attached showing the car in "before and after condition". Car body, interior, paint and top are excellent. No ripples, dents, nicks. Not a show car but it could get that way if new owner wishes to invest the time and money. Engine and drive-train runs smooth without smoke. Flywheel chatters a smidge when taking off but nothing serious. It doesn't chatter if you engage the clutch real slow. Everything works on car except for horn, which was disconnected but still in place. Dashboard was re-configured with a few switches when starting the car by A. Landis to thwart thieves from stealing car. He added a separate panel under the dash with several toggles but not harmful to the originality of the dashboard. Mr. Landis is still alive and well. I was told by D. Wright that he paid a visit in 2009 just to see his old car again. In March, 2011 I telephoned Mr. Landis to get more information on the car. He said that he replaced the original motor with a more powerful one of same vintage. He said he loved the car and drove everywhere with it! The current engine number reads: 8RT 6050B. Further research indicates the following, "In the 1948 model year, Ford brought out a re-styled truck line before the revamped 1949 model year cars. The standard V8 engine in these trucks was known as the 8RT engine, and closely resembled the 8BA new style engine with detachable bell housing and upright conventional distributor. The 8RT engines are preferred by some enthusiasts because it had hardened valve seats and more "meat" in the cylinder walls so they could accept a larger bore. In 1949, the re-designed engine known as the 8BA appeared in the cars, the 8RT was used in trucks, bore and stroke remained the same, water necks and pumps were changed, the bell housing became detachable, and these remained the basic Ford engines until 1953. For additional info, please refer to BTC-BCI - Bilben article or telephone me for the link. Ebay does not allow website links in their ads. Car is sprayed with PPG DBC paint. New stay-fast canvass top w/red stitching from Tops-on-Line. New floorpans (front & rear), toeboards, & braces (riggers) from Classic Fabrication. Floorpans are 18 gauge steel, stronger than the original floors and other aftermarket types. New seats and panels are custom finished by Classic Touch Interiors. New brake shoes and brake drums. New Optimum battery. New fuel pump. New carburetor. New starter/solenoid switch. New screw jack for top. New windshield. Radiator cleaned and re-sealed. Fuel tank boiled and sealed. All new DB Fury 3" whitewall tires from Diamond Back Classics. Why did I buy this car? I was born in 1952. My Dad owned a Ford Crestline just like this one. However, I am relocating to Florida. I have too many cars including my 1960 MGA and my 1949 Ford F1. I am unable to take them all with me. Included in this auction are many extra parts, collected during the ownership by Mr. D. Wright. These hard-to-find parts include stainless steel trim parts, many sets of tail lenses, bevels, radiator fan, two AM radios, repair manuals, books, sales brochures, magazine articles highlighting this car. Also included is a Waldron Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit (still in box). I have a written document from Automotive Information Clearinghouse in 1983, showing that 339 of these cars exist, that 9 are in Colorado. This report was performed in 1983. The only rust found on this car were on the floorpans. All four pans (driver side front/back, passenger side front/back) have been replaced. Colorado has minimal humidity. The cars native to this state remain dry. *Engine compartment and undercarriage were not refurbished. They are in original condition. If these photos look rough, it's because these areas were not addressed unless they mechanical parts were inoperative. No rust issues with undercarriage or frame. The new owner will be very happy with this car. A Low Reserve. I believe the price is fair. Sunliner is advertised locally so auction may be lifted early. Happy Bidding! If you have questions, feel free to telephone me. Thank you for looking!
