Vehicle Detail
Welcome to my NO RESERVE Auction for this Restomod / Hotrod 1956 Dodge Pickup Truck. Most Restomods I have seen listed on Ebay usually have a story that goes with them so below you will see the story of this project. I have also provided an itemized List of parts that either I have a record of or that I can recall. Most parts listed were new when purchased, used parts will be noted. Any issues I am aware of will be listed. Please note that I am not a mechanic so it is possible I may miss something or not know to write about something else so please ask questions before bidding. Also, regarding the Parts and itemization, I think I have covered everything but may have overlooked something so ask questions if something is not on the list you have interest in it. I have a Clear title. The Title shows the Identification Number as "82393213". I have a thick 3 Ring Binder which has most of the Receipts, Manuals, Documentation, etc. which pertain to Parts & Labor spent on the Truck. Binder is @ 2" thick so will provide as good a history as I have. I could only find 2 photos of the Truck from when the work first started which you can see here in the photos section. My son acquired the Truck and we Titled it, in my name since he was 15 at the time, in 2004. It was intended to be his driver truck for High School. Once we got it home, we realized we may have gotten in quite a bit over our heads. We did a Frame off Sandblast of the frame and Cab. The Bed was not salvageable due to rust. The body needed work so we contacted a local Hot Rod/ Auto Body / Mechanic friend who had been designing and building Hot Rods since the early 1950's. Basically, when we took the truck to him it was in pieces after the sandblasting. He had some good ideas and did some cool work on the Truck Body and making all the new technology fit into the Truck. Unfortunately, funding the necessary work became challenging so work slowed considerably. After years of trying to continue to fund the necessary work (yes, I have a small fortune in it as you can imagine - @ $35k), my son did not get to drive it in High School and went off to college. I continued to get some work done on it for a few years as I could until about 2007 and the Truck has been sitting in my Garage / Driveway (tarp covered most of the time) ever since in its present condition. It literally has 215 miles on it as I have not been driving it and my son moved out of the country to earn his Masters Degree. Now, back in the country and starting his career, he has no need for a second vehicle so We agreed it is best to go ahead and sell it. Since I was not driving it, I turned in the Tag a few years ago to avoid paying annual Insurance so you will need a new Tag. I did drive the Truck to our local downtown area just to go for a cruise a couple of times - it definitely draws a lot of attention, turns a lot of heads and gets a lot of whoops and Thumbs Up!!!!!! Some of the Custom Work that was done to the Truck includes:Engine: We went with a brand new 350 HO Deluxe Crate Motor. Coupled with the B&M Z Gate Shifter, passing speed is almost scary!Front End: The guy we used, as mentioned earlier, was an old time Hot Rodder who had been designing and building Hot Rods from the 1950's. We allowed him some license with the overall design and he felt to make it look like a real bad *** Hot Rod, he suggested the front end be lower than the back. Not sure how all of the work was done but the positioning of the new Fatman Mustang II Series III and a smaller tire on front / larger tire on back creates the effect. Headlights: Frenched the Headlights (very cool look)Turn Signals: The original signals were removed and the space they occupied filled in with metal. Modern Turn signals were later installed into the remodeled front grill.Grill: Removed the original, rusted heavy metal bars that filled in the Grill and replaced them with the front end of a Dodge Durango Grill (I can not recall which year). Custom fit in the Turn Signal Lights. I am not sure exactly how he did it but I think he used a hardening putty (bondo ?) to secure it in place. Over time, the paint / bondo (?) around the grill has cracked.Truck Bed: The original Bed was too rusted out to save. Took a Dodge Ram Pickup Truck Bed and modified it to fit this Truck. See details below in Itemized section for "Truck Bed". Rather creative effort I thought.Gas Cap: Designed a Hide-a-way Gas Cap system with Pop open door.Interior: Complete Custom Interior including carpet, floor matts, door panels & cab header! Also custom made wooden Shifter Knob and Dash Panels!Power Steering: I know this isn't body work but he did a lot of work under the hood to make power steering a reality. We acquired a used steering column (apologies as I don't recall what it came off of) for the project and it looks and works well!Floor Boards: A whole new metal floor board was designed and installed as the old one was rusted and cut out.Seat Belts: Added modern Shoulder Strap Seat belts which, in the case of this truck! Was much more difficult to achieve in this old truck than one would expect. They are after market but work perfectly. I don't recall what they came off of.Seats / Console: in designing the interior, the original plan was to build in a console that resembled that of a Dodge Viper so the Bucket seats were used and clearance was left to accommodate the console design. As you can see, the console was not installed so will leave it up to you to finish it to your likes.Hood Latch: the original handle latches were removed and holes bondoed up. In their place, we installed a set of Zeuss screw down fasteners and a barrel lock on each hood panel to ensure the only people looking into the engine compartment are who you want.Power Everything: Power Breaks, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Locks and an AC system. Parts & Labor Detail:EXTERIOR / ENGINE / ETC.:Engine: New Crate 350 Motor. I bought this through JEGS. It is the complete engine package and includes a Holley Carburetor, aluminum dual plane intake, HEI Distributor, Water Pump, Harmonic Balancer, and the Flexplate for Automatic Transmissions. Comes with the original Packing Crate Label showing Serial & Part Numbers and Specifications Manual.Headers: Patriot Ceramic Coated Tight Truck Headers #737-H8027-1Windows / Glass: Driver & Passenger Windows have Power Window Kit from EZ Power Windows. Driver & Passenger Window Glass is new. Windshield and rear glass panel are original as far as I know. The seals on all glass were installed new. Driver window is working fine, the passenger is not. It was working fine in the past. I had left the truck out at one point with no cover on it for a few days in the rain. Some rain had leaked in through the passenger side door, soaking the floor board on that side. Not sure if that effected the wiring or not. I am not sure if the rubber door seal or the window channel / seal on the passenger door is the culprit but you will want to have a look at it. I did notice when I washed the truck to ready it for photos some water escaped in at top of the window and some of the channel material had come loose so most likely the issue is the top of the channel.Battery: Plus Everstart 753S (just purchased it new this week)Starter: came from a corvette but I am not sure the year. Works wellWheels / Rims: Front Wheels are AMERICAN RACING "HOPSTER" Series 550-7773. Rear Wheels are AMERICAN RACING "HOPSTER" Series 550-7873.Tires: Front: Wynstar Exocet R-27245/45zR1795WRear: Uniroyal Laredo P265/70R17113SM+SGas Tank: The Gas Tank is the tank that came with the truck when we bought it. Not sure if it was original though probably was. To be safe, I sent the Tank to B&B Universal in Detroit, Michigan where they inspected, cleaned and did their full service renovation "Gas Tank Renu" to bring it up to safe, useable standardsBrakes: Installed disc brakes.Hood Ornament: This is the original Ram Hood Ornament that came with the Truck that I had Re-Chromed - looks awesome! I have the second, round Dodge Ram Badge that came on it but felt the truck looked a lot more manly without it added. I had planned to use the badge as a handle for the glove compartment but did not get around to doing that work as it was to be done when the console was completed and radio installed. I will keep the badge as a memento of the project my son and I had taken on.Transmission: 350 Turbo Transmission. This was used when installed and I do not recall what it came out of.Side Mirrors: Side Mirrors from Joe's Street Rod Shop in Margate, Fla.Hood Latches: the original Hood Latches were removed and the holes bondoed up. A system with 2 screw down locks and one locking barrel lock were added to each of the 2 hood panels to ensure only people you want looking under the hood are able to do so. The original articulating metal arms that hold the hood open are still in place and in use. Front End: Fat Man Fabrications Mustang II FS Stage IIIMufflers: Dual Exhaust, so 2 Flowmaster Series 50 Delta Flow Mufflers (GREAT Sound!)Truck Bed: The original Truck Bed was rusted out and not salvageable. We ended up buying a used 1994 Dodge Ram Bed. My mechanic cut a foot of metal out of the entire center of the bed (running front to back), pushed the 2 bed parts together after basically cutting the bed in half, and then welded it back in place. The Tailgate was tricky as it also was cut in the same fashion, but works perfectly. Paint / Color: We originally painted the Truck a dark Gray Pearl Coat color. The interior is also gray. I don't recall the brand name or actual color name of each. The guy doing the work on the truck painted it and agreeably did not do a great job. He then repainted it to it's current color which is Dodge Viper Blue Pearl Coat. The Inside of the truck bed was only painted the Gray Pearl Coat. My plan was to use the Rhino Liner for the bed versus painting it the Dodge Viper Blue Pearl coat which I ended up not doing. Instead, the inside of the Truck bed was painted with a rattle can of hammered black rustoleum as an interim measure which looks more dark grayish than black but looks quite good so I did not bother with the Rhino liner. You will most likely want to repaint the truck, especially if you want to take it to shows, or at least parts of it as there are 2 large bubbles on the passenger side door, a small @ 1/2" chip on the right side of the hood and rusting / bubbling on the cross panel below the grill. Some very small bubbles in a few other areas. Some scratches and what looks like the orange peel effect from the clear coat never having been buffed enough at time of painting. For a daily driver though it still looks good.Leaf Springs: The leaf Springs are, I believe original to the Truck. We removed them and had them professionally tensioned and new U clamps attached, and then re-installed.Door Handles : OriginalWindshield Wipers: Specialty Power Windows WWK-21 Wiper Kit with Delay Switch, stainless Arms with Blades. Wiper Motor runs however the blades need to be either bent or remounted as they are not running across the windows as they should. Never drove the truck in the rain so never tried them before so not sure what is wrong but you will want to have a look before going out on a rainy day.INTERIOR:Custom Interior by Orlando Auto Upholstery includes all Custom Carpet on Floor, around base of seats and Rear wall Panel. Additionally, there are 2 Custom matching Floor Matts. They finished off the work with awesome 2 tone gray Door Panels and Headliner. Hand Brake for Parking: Speedway 11" Transmount Hand Brake, Cable & BootFoot Pedal: BilletBrake Pedal: BilletDash / Instrument Panels: Both sides were custom made out of the exotic hardwood Amboyna. Very beautiful wood. A few chip spots at the edges but overall a fabulous look.Gauges: Gauges were bought new I believe from JEGS but I can't find the receipt for them. Gauges have been in working condition. I put 5 gallons of gas in the tank as I have been readying it for sale and the gas gauge is not registering so not sure if the float may be stuck or not from sitting idle for awhile. Other gauges appear to be working.Bucket Seats: the seats are after market seats my son bought on-line. They are leather seats in nice condition with the Dodge Ram head stitched into the headrest area. I don't recall exactly what they were from but I believe it was a late 1990's / early 2000's Dodge Ram. Seats are gray and match the custom interior. They have electric movement capability but because of the limited space, by design, of this 1956 cab, they are installed in fixed position and do not move. The electric buttons for the seat Is still attached but removed from their fitted position on the seat. I am 5'11 and the position the seats are in work perfectly for me.Battery: Plus Everstart 753S (just purchased it new this week)Starter: an aftermarket starter from a corvette but I am not sure the year. Works well!Shifter Knob: Custom made Shifter knob made out of the same exotic hardwood Amboyna as the Dash Panels. Very beautiful wooShifter: B&M Z GATE ShifterDoor Handles: Billet Specialties Item Number #45320Dash Headlight Knob: Billet Specialties #26003Lighter: Billet Specialties #264128 #78 Short Ribbed FlameRear View Mirror: Billet Specialties #257330. Missing the bracket to mount it to the window. Most likely in the truck somewhere but I have not found it yet. Will update if I doSteering Wheel: Billet Specialties Black 1/2 Wrap "Chicayne" with Polished Hub Adapter. The horn works fineDoor Locks: AutoLoc Remote Power Door Central Lock Kit. Key remote battery is dead after all these years and needs to be replacedStereo System: has 2 Alpine 6"x9" 3 way speakers mounted behind the seats & 2 Alpine 6 1/2" x 6 3/4" 2 way speakers mounted in the doors. We had a nice Alpine AM / FM / CD Player Radio & Infinity Amplifier in the truck but pulled them out some time ago as they were never officially installed since the console has not been completed. Unfortunately, after 3 moves, I can not locate either of those components. If I do find them I will place them in the truck when you pick it up.Air Conditioning: Made by Vintage Air. I could not find the Model Number.Photos: All Photos taken on March 22, 2014 so show current condition. Photos taken in the street in front of my house at @ 10:00 AM. Some shadowing from trees but overall good representation. No photoshopping of the images.Because I do not have Tag or Insurance, I did not take the Truck out on the open road but did drive it around the neighborhood this week getting it ready for this sale. Almost regret taking the drive as I am now seriously wondering why I am selling it. I do love the truck and the history of working on it with my son. I had a neighbors visitor drive by as I was pulling it down the driveway and he almost fell out of his car trying to get over to ask me about it. As mentioned, it turns heads and it is just a blast to drive. The engine feels ready to run and that it may need a slight carburetor mixture adjustment. SHIPPING: Buyer is responsible for picking up the truck. If you are using a transport company I will want an email from you with the name of the transport company prior to pickup also authorizing me to release the Truck to them. Down payment due within 4 days after auction close. Full Payment due, cash on pickup is acceptable, within 7 days of auction close or down payment is forfeited and vehicle relisted.I have downloaded 2 Videos on Youtube so if you if you look there you can query "1956 Dodge Pickup Truck Restomod Hot Rod Crate 350" and you should be able to watch them both. One is of the still photos here in the listing and the other a video of the Truck running. I did notice after posting the video that the driver door is dented in - must have happened when I pulled the tarp off for the photos but It is a simple fix to pull it back out with a suction cup tool (I don't have the tool) but looking here on Ebay one can be bought for about 10 bucks.
