Vehicle Detail

1959 Morris Minor 1000 convertible. Good running and driving example with only 44000 original miles. Original 948cc engine and 4 speed trans. Here's a brief history: In 1959 a sailor returning from a tour in England purchased the car new from a dealer in Anapolis Md. Car was purchased as "second"car for his wife. Two years later after leaving the navy, they moved back home to St Louis Mo with car in tow. In 1963 the car was sold to his good friend Larry. He used car to get to and from the golf course on weekends and wife Trudy to get around town they the week. In 1971 at the request of their daughter, the original Fulford grey color was covered with a Morris correct Clipper blue paint job. The interior was redone with a "groovy" blue " swirl" material. My parents had the same material on their kitchen chairs back in the day. The top was replaced with a white vinyl unit. Over the next twenty years the car was used less and less. It sat in the garage in the winter and taken out every few years to get running and eventually put back in the garage. In 1992 I was introduced to the car thru Larry's son-in-law. Being an ex Jaguar mechanic, I was familiar with the "ways" of British cars. Once again the car made it out into the light and received a fuel system clean and complete brake rebuild. Over the years I provided maintenance and repairs. In 2009 with Larry getting older, I was offered the car and jumped at the chance to own it.The day it came to my home, the top was lowered and covered with the original boot. It has not been up since. We have enjoyed it and drive it whenever nice weather and time allow.Condition:Mechanically it runs and drives good. The engine is a bit cold natured but once warm runs great. The trans shifts as well as any non-sycro trans can. The electrical system functions as it should. All lights, horn ,wipers heater fan work fine.the speedometer/odometer work but I think the cable could use some lube as the needle jumps a bit. The tires are almost new. The windows roll up and down as they should. The body is remarkably solid. The floors are good and have been coated with POR 15 . The body does has some minor dings. The paint is still the 1971 version and frankly is in rough shape. Some call it patina. I have put it in a few shows but it's no "winner". The only rust is light surface rust where the paint is chipped. The chrome on the bumpers is peeling in spots and the trim piece around the drivers door handle is missing. The interior is again the groovy 1971 version. It was ugly as anything but in pretty good condition . Instead of replacing it I had it dye a more pleasing navy blue color. It was done very carefully and has held up very well.the steering wheel has a couple cracks but nothing big. The top is there and can be used in a pinch but if you want to rely on it to be weather tight it should be replaced. Overall it's a solid car that can be enjoyed as is or would be a great candidate for a resto. The car is located in Belleville Il. About 15 miles east of StLouis Mo. I am willing to store the car till shipping can be arranged. Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer but I will help in any way I can. If you have questions please ask. Email/call/text 618-972-0643 central time.A $500 deposit will be due within 24 hrs of auctions end. Thanks and happy bidding.
