Vehicle Detail
I purchased this Bavaria from an estate sale in 2002 (I had to submit a copy of the death certificate when transferring the title to my name). It has service records dating back to the early 80's. I have also kept all records since purchase. This vehicle runs and drives very well. It is a true example of an unmolested, original 1972 BMW. It does have rust in some of the usual places i.e. rocker panels, wheel arches and the leading edge of the front fenders. It does not have any structural rust or any rust in the trunk or floor of vehicle. What it lacks in sheet metal beauty it makes up for in mechanical soundness and interior condition. As you will see in the photos it has a very well preserved interior. The period Nardi steering wheel is in excellent condition. All interior pieces are intact and functional including all switches, seat belts, original Blaupunkt AM/FM radio with rear deck mounted speaker. There is a small crack in the plastic cover of the glass (a spare is included with vehicle) and a small crack in the dash. Original Coco floor mats are included as well as modern Weathertech mats. The trunk has all of the original spare tire tools and panels. It also has a complete original tool kit mounted to the underside of the trunk. Mechanicals have been consistently maintained and all services have been documented including:Rebuilding Factory CarburetorsReplacing Exhaust & Intake Manifold GasketsRebuilding TransmissionRe-Core of RadiatorNew WindsheildNew washer pumpNew exhaust systemPeriodic replacement of points, plugs, spark plug wires, etc. This vehicle is not perfect as most 40+ year old cars aren't. It does however run, drive and stop very well. It does have an interior that is completely intact and would require almost no attention. Best of all it has not had anyone decide it needed performance upgrades or leather seats or lowered suspension. It is a testament to innovative German engineering before big bumpers and anti-smog devices took their toll. With some moderate body work and a little TLC this car could be immaculate. I Have enjoyed owning and driving this immensely. I am not currently able to give it the time and attention it needs and would love to see it go to a good home. I have done my best to start the bid price very low. Please only bid if you intend to purchase, preserve and protect this piece of automotive history.
