Vehicle Detail

Please look over the information provided in the listing and the 24 photographs; it represents a comprehensive profile of the car. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me. To view all 84 photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/kinobaby/MCoupe02# The original owner in Littleton, Colorado stored the car in a heated garage. He only drove the car in the summer: 4,000 miles in 4 years. The car was shipped to Tampa (Lutz), Florida in an enclosed transport in 2004. I specified and paid for the car to be placed in the upper berth above all other deliveries and not moved until delivery. Note: if you consider transporting the car, I recommend DeMoise Trk-ing Inc. from Greer SC as I was pleased with all aspects their work. All records and a current CarFax report are available. There have never been any issues with this car other than replacing the fuel pump under warranty in 2006 (the car ran fine, but there was fuel odor in the cockpit - I believe tightening the connection would have been the remedy, but the BMW dealer replaced the pump and filter behind the passenger seat. The original manufacturer's warranty was in effect for one year when I bought the car and I purchased an extended 4 year warranty (since expired and with no justifiable need to renew it). All service is done by me using only BMW fluids and filters. The oil used is Castrol Motorsport, which BMW requires for M engines: Oil and filter were changed every 5,000 miles (after several oil analyses reports, the interval was increased to 7,000 miles. Note: the computer display in the dashboard indicates changes between 10,000 and 15,000 depending on how many engine starts and what RPMs were used during the service cycle. I choose to change it more often although I only averaged 3,500 miles per year for the past 10 years. Oil/filter was changed this month as were all other fluids. Oil samples from oil changes were routinely sent to Blackstone Laboratory for analysis. All reports are within the specified elements content and properties. All other fluids (coolant, brake, clutch) were flushed and changed three times: 2004, 2009, 2014 (this month to prep for sale). Note: distilled water was used to dilute the BMW coolant to 50% The brake pads are original. They are less than 50% worn; a testament on how conservatively the car is used. The tires (225/45ZR17 front, 245/40ZR17 rear) were replaced at 24,700 miles in August 2007 and are less than 50% worn (Toyo Proxis T1R). They perform as well as the original Michelin Pilot Sports, which wore about twice as fast as the Toyos are wearing. The battery was replaced in January of 2011 and is under warranty. The original battery lasted 10 years, likely because it is located away from engine heat under the rear compartment. The same compartment also holds the original BMW-supplied tool and manuals. The rear view mirror chromatic fluid was replaced and re-sealed in July 2012 as it had lost part of its self dimming properties. I installed a BMW front license frame, which is curved to fit the bumper in 2005 to hold my European tag and tag surround from the BMW dealer in my original home town in Spain (the tag remains with me, whereas the frame can accompany the car). I installed a BMW chrome handbrake button at the same time. BMW rubber floor mats have protected the original M logo carpet mats since new. The rear compartment carpet is protected by the BMW logo bag, which came with BMW car cover. I installed a BMW 6 CD changer (this was the only option not chosen by the original owner) in the empty niche in the rear compartment. It is controlled remotely by the BMW radio/player in the dash, which also holds/plays a single CD. The BMW radio "whip" antenna on the roof was replaced by a short one from Audi. The original is in the tool compartment. Note: radio reception is better with the BMW antenna, whereas the look is better with the Audi antenna. A new Colgan bra (to protect the front end on a road trip) will accompany the car. Upon purchase I considered driving the car home, but decided to ship it; eliminating possible road damage and 1,800 miles of mileage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is how I've used the car for 35,000 miles in the past 10 years: Parking lots - I always park away from everyone else regardless of the walk to a store. There is no damage to the body or paint. Florida Sun - the car is stored in my garage. If I'm out, I park in the shade and/or use the windsheild sun shade. I use the soft BMW car cover when practical. The paint finish is maintained with German P21s products. The Leather is maintained with Lexol products. I use the abundant torque of the S54 engine to shift through the gears at low RPM and engage 5th quickly. With so much power on hand there is little need to down shift to pass or accelerate briskly from 5th gear. You are not considering this car for gas mileage, but note that this driving style yields >30mpg and places less stress on the drivetrain. I do not down-shit to slow the car; I use the brakes with intermittent on/off application to cool the rotors. I'm easy on the clutch upon take-off and in-between gear changes. I place the car in neutral when stopped. I use all switch gear, handles, and locks with care and deliberate action, e.g. in closing doors (also never shut or open door using the window, use door handle), opening/closing hood and rear compartment, turning on/off cockpit switches, etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: I did run up against the rev limiter once, reaching 155 mph (the factory limit is accurate) before ignition was cut off by the limiter, and have occasionally raced across the multi-lane bridge between Tampa and St. Petersburg at high speed; when practical and when in the mood. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the car is maintained and driven correctly, it will continue to increase in value. This is 1 out of 11 Titanium Silver, MCoupes produced in 2001 (the total 2001/2002 US production is 690 units with the S54 engine). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your interest. This is how the car is driven - the aggressive road presence and knowledge of the potential are normally enough to restrain the urge to blow everyone off the road. This does not keep me from sometimes enjoying the thrill of this machine's power and handling. From cold start, I wait for the service indicator lights to extinguish before driving off (about 30 sec.), and wait until the differential temp. gauge registers 200 deg. F before any high RPM use. On Jan-16-14 at 11:32:18 PST, seller added the following information: I apologize that the description was copied twice more into the record. I first corrected a spelling error (down-shit was corrected to down-shift), then added more items that where included with the car (relatively insignificant things), and copied all into the edit two times. I did not know that the full narrative would appear over again….and again….and again. eBay can not help to eliminate the duplicates – the proposed remedy is to cancel this auction, contact bidders of my intentions, and place a new auction. This is not acceptable. I am sorry that you have to scroll down through this mess to, literally, get to the bottom of it.On Jan-19-14 at 09:50:18 PST, seller added the following information: Updates: 1) In response to the high bidder's request (attached below), photos of the front end were added to the existing ones in Picasa. Go here: https://picasaweb.google.com/kinobaby/MCoupe_front_19JAN14# Dear schwaco, Has any paint work at all, been done to this vehicle? Seems odd with 39k miles that there are absolutely NO chips up front. Note: The main reason there so few marks on the front is that from new it has been protected by 3M protective film. I removed it in 2012 because the clear had begun to yellow. Also, On the highway I stay well back from the car in front of me. More so, if it is a truck, SUV, or anything with exposed tires. As soon as possible I pass everyone with gusto. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .2) In response to the bidder's request (attached below), for photos of the rear end with the deck lid closed. Go here: https://picasaweb.google.com/kinobaby/MCoupe_rear_19Jan14# Dear schwaco, Would you show a photo of the rear with the hatch closed? What is the '1000' marking? Notes: a) I decline to display the license tag number ahead of time as it may allow someone to get my phone number. I do not want calls or anyone stopping by asking to sell before the auction ends. There have been numerous messages to that end (some pleasant and complimentary, while one was downright rude). b) There are no marks on the rear. I have never loaded much of anythng in the rear compartment. I keep the car cover bag over the over the carpet and the car cover over that, so when I did put something there it was on the folded cover and did not slide around against the sides. I have never placed anything heavy there. I have never rested anything on the rear bumper cover when unlocking the hatch. c) The "1,000" sticker is from a Honda Hurricane 1000 motorcycle. Don't have one, but collect interesting stuff and like the look on the car. It is on the outside of the glass so it can be removed without damage to the tint (light tint was added by original owner when new as was the protective film on front). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) The car now has 40k miles. On Jan-20-14 at 07:53:50 PST, seller added the following information: Update: this is to make known that the marks seen in the previous, full diclosure, photo are mostly reflections. The few, actual, pencil-point marks are likely from this parting trip to Key West. We took back roads on the way down, but returned on I-75. Go here to see: https://picasaweb.google.com/kinobaby/MCoupe_frontReflections_20Jan14#5971000435054595474On Jan-20-14 at 15:32:21 PST, seller added the following information: Update: some time ago I added clear OEM side marker lenses with amber bulbs on each side of the front bumper. I have the original amber lenses if you prefer them.On Jan-24-14 at 10:47:12 PST, seller added the following information: . Updates: 1) 2014 Registration - After returning to Florida in December, I had forgotten that the registration had lapsed at the end of October 2013. I re-registered the car this past Tuesday. https://picasaweb.google.com/kinobaby/MCoupe_2014Registration#5972484239040370386 I've been at my mountain home in the mountains in North Carolina for the past 10 months. The MCoupe remained in Florida. I flew down in June to take care of some business and drove the car enough to prevent flat-spotted tires while it sat in the garage. Upon leaving I put on the battery trickle charger (using the 12v cockpit receptacle) and covered the car. 2) Decision to sell - I retired this past February and I will spend most my time in NC. This car should stay out of salted environments. I have my Toyota Pickup and ML500 in NC. My Volvo daily driver will remain in FL. I have not decided whether to take my Triumph TR4 up there or leave it in FL. 3) No paint work done - A bidder has asked if there has been any paint work at all done on the car - there has been no paint work. The car is original. I did have the wheels refurbished to factory specs at Reeves BMW in Tampa in January of 2013. There was some curb rash (about 3” on the lip on R/F wheel from curb at bank teller drive through). I decided to redo all to in case doing one might end up looking any different that the 3 perfect ones. I was not thinking about selling the car then – the imperfect wheel bothered me each time I washed the car. 4) Showroom condition - The owner of Reeves BMW wants my car in her SHOWROOM along with the new models. I did not take up her offer since her % cuts into my profit. On Jan-24-14 at 15:00:59 PST, seller added the following information: Update: Wax on rear compartment - After posting the previous revision showing the registration, I noticed what looked like body shop tape on the rubber gasket of rear compartment handle. It is (was) wax. Please follow this link to see before and after photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/kinobaby/WaxOnRearCompartmentHandle#5972596706386635186On Jan-24-14 at 18:58:52 PST, seller added the following information: Update: Some of the things included were not made clear in the description since I copied the entire narrative when adding these items: Colgan bra (model specific) Bentley Service Manual (very detailed and specific) BMW E/38 car cover (not in good condition) OBD-2 service reset tool (cockpit connection) Peake service tool (engine compartment connection) Armrest (not very useful, but nicely covers the sections of the console between the seats, which BMW had left open) BMW Euro license frame (model specific) BMW wiper blades (new) Original window sticker 2001 MCoupe sales brochure Original owner MCoupe CD BTW: original owner installed light, grey tint (in perfect shape) and protective film (removed - was yellowing) when new.
