Vehicle Detail
Saab 99 EMS was the sporty top-of-the-line 99 model from 1972 until 1978 when the turbo model was introduced. It has the much better and more reliable Swedish made 2.0L engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection system, giving it 110 hp. It is a fun and peppy car to drive with plenty of bottom end torque, as opposed to the early turbo models. Much better fuel economy too. Original "soccerball" aluminum rims with blue center caps. Front seats are heated and the rear seat can be folded forward, like in most every Saab. This car was well maintained by its first Swedish owners. It was never winter driven and has always been parked indoor since I took possession. It was imported from Sweden to Halifax, Nova Scotia and then driven the 1000 mile trip to Ontario under own power. If the car stays in Ontario, an Ontario safety inspection can be included for a small extra fee. Because the car is over 25 years old, it is exempt from DOT and EPA regulations and can therefore easily be imported to the US as is. Only requirement is that the official US buyer, be it you or a friend or family member of yours, have to be present as you cross the border in Ogdensburg, NY (40 miles away), and you have to say the car is for personal use (not for commercial resale etc). You can drive this car home under own power, another option is renting a trailer from U-Haul (only 2 miles away). Will be happy to help with shipping/transportation if needed. Sold as is without warranty. Has a clear title. Please contact me first for payment options. Happy bidding. On 08-Jan-14 at 19:02:31 EST, seller added the following information: Dear friends and eBay bidders, There are four questions that have come up repeatedly, so I figured I will give everyone the same answer. 1. Can I bring in this car to the US without getting into any trouble or having to pay big import duties? Answer: Because this car is more than 25 years old, is is exempt from all the rules and you can bring it in as is without any changes to the car. The only duty you have to pay is 2.5% of whatever the eBay auction ends at, so most likely something close to $100. The only other thing is that you have to tell the US border patrol officer that you bought this car for personal use. I obviously have the title and all other import documents that you will need for the car. That is all there is to it, I sold many Saabs to US friends and they never had any problems going back home. 2. You say the car is virtually rust free, what does that mean? Answer: I said virtually rust free, because I wanted to be brutally honest. This 1974 99 EMS is 100% rust free by most people's judgement. What I am talking about is slight surface rust under the rubber seal on the inside lower part of the doors. There may be a little surface rust behind the rear mudflaps too, which is another exposed area. You will not find any rust perforations anywhere on this car, it has been very well preserved over the years. Case in point, it has been in indoor dry storage all the 10 years I owned the car and I know the previous Swedish owner took very well care of it too. 3. Can you store this car for me until weather permits me to come and drive it home? Answer: Certainly, many people asked me this question. Now Saabs are made for winter driving and are great at it too, but yes, if you prefer I will store it for you until you can make it up here, not that it is that far :) The first eBay bidder that asked this question told me he will pay for the car in full within a week after which we transfer the ownership. After that I will be happy to store it until you can make it here, no problem. Doing it that way would be perfectly acceptable to me. 4. It looks nice but a little dull. Answer: Yes, silver metallic, like yellow in the early 70-ties, tended to get a little dull faster than other colors. To be honest I am probably doing myself a big disfavor by not polishing and waxing this car before showing the pictures. It will clean up just wonderfully if you give it a polish. My main concern was always that it worked perfectly from a mechanical point of view, you can always give your neighbour or son a little money to give it a nice polish and wax job or something :) Thanks Mikael
