Vehicle Detail
1992 GMC TYPHOONAWD * TURBOCHARGED * INTER-COOLED 4.3L V699% ORIGINAL VERY NICE CONDITION!ONLY 129K miles! Finding a GMC Typhoon or Syclone that has not been modified, beat to death or been kept in 100% original condition is getting very very hard to find. Typhoons in this condition don’t come up for sale often and the market on these has been steadily climbing making these trucks clearly collectible and desirable for all GM or truck collectors. This Typhoon is a great example and is correct in all aspects. It has all its original equipment including the factory am/fm CD player with EQ, and was built as a special order truck that is fully loaded with every power option including power steering, power brakes with ABS, power windows, power door locks with key remote, air conditioning (blows ice cold), power rear latch release, rear window wipers, rear window defroster, tilt wheel, cruise control, fully adjustable leather seats and of course the awesome turbocharged, inter-cooled 4.3L V6! This truck was a special "Corporate Office Production Order - COPO" order that was built specifically for "press release and writers" and has some unusual factory installed upgrades. First, this Typhoon was ordered with a Sportsman bright package that consists of a chrome grill, chrome taillight trim (both have been removed but are included with the vehicle) as well as a bright finished roof rack and rails. Additionally, this COPO Typhoon boasts the Ultra Performance Package which included a special order factory installed higher stall lock-up converter, elevated fuel pressure to the injectors and increased boost levels bumping the factory rated 290hp on standard Typhoon's up to a whopping 308hp! This Typhoon was driven lightly, used as a weekend cruiser and driven an average of about 6000 miles per year for the last 22+ years. Other than routine maintenance items (tires, brakes, oils and filters, etc.) this truck has never been hacked up or modified and has a clean Car-Fax free of any major accidents, thefts, or mileage discrepancies. Exterior cosmetics: Although the Apple Red on Silver paint color is original to the truck, this truck has been repainted several years ago and still looks great. It shows very little weathering and although there are several small rock chips and blemishes on the truck, the paint remains bright and shiny as I have tried to show you in the photographs. There is some minor signs of rust bubbling around the window and although small and no actual holes to speak of, this is worth mentioning and I have also done my best to show you this in the photos. Also, the truck had the misfortune of being backed into while sitting in a parking lot. Although it was a light hit, the drivers side rear cladding was cracked and there are several dings in the rear tailgate and roll pan from the impact (please see photos). Please understand that this truck is 22+ years old and has been driven and enjoyed, so do not expect a truck that is in showroom condition and needs no attention cosmetically as this is not the case. Interior cosmetics: The interior looks absolutely fantastic for its age. There are no cracks or splits in the dash, the seats are free of any rips or tears, the carpet remains clean and not faded from the sun. No wear or stains or smells. The rear window "shocks" are worn and will need replacement as they no longer want to keep the glass in the lifted position. I may have these replaced before the auction ends but please do not count on this due to my limited time. The spare tire cover (located in the rear cargo area of the truck) has a tear in the face. This obviously does not effect function, but still worth mentioning. Mechanically: The truck runs and drives great, starts easily and drives without pulling, bouncing, shaking or otherwise. The lights, horn, wipers, turn signals, A/C system, stereo, etc. all work as they should. The turbo spools up quickly and the truck accelerates as you would expect. There are no warning lights on the dash currently lit and all of the gauges function as they should. It is one of the cleanest and best driving Typhoons I have owned and I have owned several of both the Syclones and Typhoons to compare with. The truck is comfortable and very accommodating yet amazingly fast especially from a dead stop! As for the bad, there is a baffle with-in the muffler, or maybe a heat-shield that is loose and rattles at an idle. Also, there appears to be a valve cover gasket that slowly seeps oil and drips on the exhaust manifold, so you can occasionally see some smoke and smell the oil being burnt off. These all seem to be relatively minor to repair, but I do not want the new owner to have any surprises. Please feel free to have your mechanic come look at the vehicle, I have nothing to hide. Overall: The Typhoon is a low production, collectible truck to begin with. These trucks shook the automotive world when they were introduced, and were decimating the performance cars of that time including Chevy Corvette and the Ferrari 348. Additionally, this Typhoon has rare COPO documentation and remains clean and unmolested with low miles. Although not perfect, the truck continues to turn heads whenever she is driven. I recently bought this Typhoon with the intention of driving her daily but have since decided to go a different direction and keep my GMC Syclone instead; my loss is now your gain. Below you will find a link for the Typhoon running and driving. Both the video and the photographs you see were shot the same day this listing was written. What you see is what you are bidding on. Please ask your questions or better yet, come view the truck in person as all sales are final. I have a clean and clear title in my hand. As far as the COPO status of this truck, I wanted to share with you what I have been given and told when I purchased the truck. I was told that the vehicle was ordered by a gentleman who worked the GM-COPO Development Center (his title was "Application Engineer") and he was the one who coordinated the orders for any COPO vehicle. I have received a business card from this engineer as well as a hand written note discussing who he was, when he retired and the limited nature of the truck. I have no reason to believe that this information is fake, but I ask that you do your own homework as I am no expert of what is or is not classified as a COPO as I can only tell you what I see and what I've been told. As previously stated, what you see is what you are buying. Please feel free to continue asking your questions, requesting additional photographs, or inspecting the truck in person. Thanks again for the interest, good luck if you choose to bid. Video clip:http://youtu.be/CUs4F-pJJ3w (you may need to copy and paste) Terms: (please read entirely) This vehicle is being sold in "as is" and "where is" condition.
