Vehicle Detail
This is a very cool old ex-forestry department rig that was retired from service and purchased by the second owner in 1989. The second owner was a plumber who used the truck as a work truck for about 10 years before he retired. He lived in Phoenix, AZ. He was selling an old RV that he had listed on the internet and so I went over to his house to check out the RV and was talking to his son about it but it needed way to much work for me. I saw this old crew cab sitting in his back acreage and I asked him if he would be willing to sell it. He said he would ask his dad, who just had hip surgery and was not able to walk. He came back and said I could check it out and if the price was right then he would sell it. The truck was literally stacked full of crap and all the storage bins in the service bed were also full of old plumbing gear. The floors were gone on both the driver's and passenger's side. All four tires were flat and had not had air in them for about 10 years according to the son. It hadn't run in a few years he said. I knew how rare these Crew Cabs are so I decided to go ahead and trailer it home. I drained and cleaned the gas tank, drained and changed all fluids, put in a new battery and fuel pump and the truck fired right up. It has the 318 V8 with a manual 4 speed trans. The tires held air but they are very old. The seat was literally crumbling so I had the seat completely rebuilt ($450 and I have the receipt). I do have the metal rear panel for the seat, I left it off so you could see the quality of the seat rebuild. The second owner took out the rear seat and of course lost it. He had a big tool box in the back where the rear seat would go. My next step was to have the floors repaired and new tires and then it would be a cool daily driver. About a month ago I purchased a near mint 1970 (you can see it in the garage in the background) and it was delivered yesterday and I now have no garage space for this crew cab. I don't want it sitting out and now my attention is getting my other truck in daily driver mechanical condition so I have decided to sell the Crew Cab. These things are near impossible to find, especially in a two wheel drive (I see them more commonly in the Power Wagons). This thing would make a very cool patina work truck, toy hauler or shop truck. The service bed is in great shape and all the doors lock with the original key so you could lock up all your tools. Or the bed could be removed and sold and you could but a short bed on it. There are really a lot of possibly ways to go with this truck and it is a solid truck. Like I said, it will need floors and a few other minor repairs, but we all know that that is very common in this vintage of Dodge trucks but the rest of the truck and the undercarriage is very solid as you would expect from an AZ truck. The second owner had his son rattle can the hood because it was getting the surface rust like the rest of the truck and he wanted to try and preserve it, little did he know that the patina look is "in" right now so he really should have just left it. When he was doing the hood he took of the DODGE lettering on the front and lost them at some point. All the exterior rust on the bed and cab is superficial rust and adds to the look of the truck. The truck runs and drives but the tires are old and they sat flat for so long that when you drive it, it feels like they are out of round. Shifts through all gears. Carb could use a rebuild but will run as is now. This is a project truck and still needs work but when it is done, it will simply continue to go up in value because these Crew Cabs are so rare. I need the space in the driveway so the reserve price is low. I may be listing this in other media so I do reserve the right to end the auction early at anytime if it sells locally.$500 deposit is due via Paypal within 48 hours of the close of the auction.
