Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is an extremely rare 1954 Pontiac Chieftain Tin Woody 6 passenger Wagon with the original running straight 8 cylinder engine and hydramatic transmission. This car was bought new in Fargo, ND at the Ed Schum Pontiac Co. dealership and was driven by the original owner until it was parked in 1982 and then sold to the 2nd owner who never drove it. I recently purchased the wagon from the 2nd owner and pulled it out of the barn in North Dakota where it has been stored. The wheels all turned as the brakes were not froze up and the motor was loose when I pulled it out. Since the engine was loose, we took a couple of hours to get it running. Wipers turned on and dash radio "on" light came on. Hard to believe after 31 years of sitting! I did not attempt to drive the car or put gas in the fuel tank, but instead ran the engine off of gas from a bottle to the carburetor. Unfortunately, the windows and some of the sheet metal had been shot by vandals and the radiator was stolen out of the car at some point during the time it sat in the barn. All of the sideglass and rearglass is straight glass and should not be difficult to replace. It's too bad some people can't leave abandoned farmsteads alone. The car is not completely rust free as you can see in the pictures, but is by no means a rustbucket. There are a couple of small holes (<1") in the front floor pans along sills but the rears seem ok. There is a box of parts that will go with this car that includes some exterior trim, a couple of horns, an extra fan belt, and some misc. extra parts. All of the hardware in the interior appears to be in tact and in good condition with the exception of the rear passenger window crank. Stainless in the back is nice and seats fold up and down as original. Dash is optioned with radio, clock, and gauges. Missing one original hubcap. The car is very well preserved and has a clear North Dakota title. It would make for a great restoration project or to run as a rat rod. Just how many Pontiac Tin Woody Wagons have you seen lately, especially with a running straight 8? There is a very reasonable reserve on this auction, not Pierce, Nebraska pricing! Local pickup or I can haul locally for a fee. You can see the condition of the car by the pictures and I can try to get more pictures if needed. I am a car guy too, so please call with any questions 701-640-1117. Thanks and good luck!
