Vehicle Detail

The pinnacle of Riviera design and performance, the 65 Riveria Gran Sport is recognized as one of the most stylish American cars of the last half of the 20th century. With factory dual four-barrel carburetors on a high compression 425 cubic inch big block, a luxurious and sporting interior, and razor-sharp styling, the Gran Sport is a powerful automotive statement and a powerful driving machine. First offered in 1965, the Gran Sport high-performance option came with the Super Wildcat dual four-barrel 360 hp engine, a modified Super Turbine 400 automatic transmission, larger exhaust pipes, and a 3.42 rear end, along with Gran Sport badging and a long list of further equipment and features the buyer could order. Buick produced 35,586 Rivieras in 1965. Only 3354 of these cars were Super Wildcat 425 dual-quad equipped Gran Sports. The 1965 Gran Sport is a rare breed, and this car is authentic, with matching numbers to prove it -- LX coded 425 dual 4 barrel engine with VIN matching serial numbers, 3645 and 3925 code dual AFB carburetors, and 1111058 code distributor. Transmission code is the correct BS - 65 and rear end has correct positraction tag and is believed original to the car. The Gran Sport on offer here has 46,300 miles showing on the odometer. It was parked in a Washington state garage for the last 15 years (The previous owner became disabled and the last date on the title is 1994. We are attempting to verify the mileage) Very minimal deterioration occurred during the Riviera's long storage and a recent freshening has brought it back to life. This Gran Sport retains much of its factory originality, with a beautiful dark green interior and one previous repaint in the original Seafoam Green applied over perfectly straight sheet metal. Other than a few tiny bubbles the size of pinheads on the rear deck and quarter, the car is entirely rust free. A Riviera could be had with relatively few options, but that would be defeating the purpose and this Gran Sport buyer checked off most of what was available on the list. Starting with the A9 Gran Sport Performance Group, the car is extensively optioned -- Upgrade Interior with Custom Trim Bucket Seats and Ribbed Rocker Panels, Ride and Handling package, Chrome Wheels, Whitewall Tires, Upgrade interior with Custom Trim Bucket Seats, Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Four-Way Power Drivers Seat, AM/FM Pushbutton Radio with Electric Antenna, Custom Seatbelts with Retractors, Soft Ray Tinted Glass, and Remote Outside Mirror. Among the rare options are Power Vent Windows, Custom (woodgrain) Steering Wheel, and the Four Note Horn. Everything operates as designed, including the famous clamshell headlights. Lighting, instruments, power options, even the dashboard clock keeps ticking. Smooth and very powerful, this Gran Sport drives like a luxury Buick should. Bidding for this rare Riviera starts at $30,000. Auto transport across country or across the world can be arranged.
