Vehicle Detail

This is a rare example of a 1972 Honda SL350 K2 MotoSport that has been preserved and not restored or modified. I have owned and ridden this bike for the last 23 years and have carefully brought it to its current state by applying original and NOS Honda parts. I have not tried to do anything to change its character. I have waxed and hand polished the exposed parts but I haven't repainted or repolished to attain any so-called "showroom" finish. Bikes that have been gaudily over-restored give me the creeps. They look like zombies on Halloween night. You only see them under covers on the backs of trailers and never on the road. My view is that Honda made motorcycles to be ridden and not collectible momentos like the Franklin Mint. All that said, this bike is unique by virtue of many unobtanium parts. The horn switch that is correct for the motorcycle that did not come with turn signals. The headlamp switch is the old, pre-Nadar style that can be turned completely off. The handlebar grips are Honda NOS and in perfect condition. The tool box cover is original and still attached. The tool kit is included. The tank latch is the original button type and not the retro-fitted key type. The battery cover and band are the correct type and are new. The Owner's Manual has original, 40 year old finger prints and grease smudges. The fork brace is correct for the era although Honda never supplied one. The sidestand is an NOS part that isn't bent or rusty. There are two sets of mufflers included in the sale. One is a set of perfect mufflers that are stainless steel replicas made by Overlander Equipment Motorcycle Parts Manufacturer in Australia. I have attached them when showing the bike and never started the engine when they were mounted. They are pristine! The second set of mufflers are the original HONDA-KRITZMANSPARK ARRESTER mufflers. They have been patched and repainted and don't look too bad from 20 feet. Certainly better than the J. C. Whitney chrome shorties that get attached too often. These are the mufflers I use when riding the bike. An assortment of new and used parts are included in the sale as can be seen in the pictures. Lastly, how does it run? It runs great! It starts on second kick when cold and first kick when warm. The battery is good. The tires are good. The carburetors are clean. The tank is clean. The seat cover is not ripped or torn (although the foam is a little saggy). In short, it rides and shifts like it was 1972! Notice: The speedometer shows 991 miles. This is misleading. I replaced the unit with a Honda NOS speedometer a few years back after the original was damaged in a tipover. I probably have the original someplace, and vaguely remember the original mileage as ~6,000 miles. However, the mileage should be considered inderterminate. The bike has a few dents and scrapes but very few for its age. The right side cover is more faded than the left because the sidestand is on the left which exposes the right side cover to the sun. The decal is chipped on one side for some odd reason. There is no reserve. In fact, the original parts are worth the starting price alone if I were to part it out. Want to guess what those perfect mufflers are worth? If you're still reading this you already know. Legal blah-blah-blah: Don't bid if you are not going to buy. Show some respect for me and for yourself. US$500 deposit in 48 hours of the end of the auction. Buyer is responsible for ALL transportation costs. However, I will work with any shipper you designate to make it a smooth delivery. Obviously the payment in full must be cleared before I will release the bike. Nigerian princes need not apply! If you want to use Forward Air I will provide locks and tie downs and take the bike to the Hartford CT airport (BDL) for US$100. That all I can think of right now. If you have a question or comment I'll quickly post an answer for all to see. I'm sorry to see it go but I have a Triumph T140V and a Honda CL72 in the basement that are calling for attention. Something has to make room. Bid High and Bid Often! Notice #2:The state of Connecticut does not issue titles for vehicles older than 1980. eBay requires that a title status be listed and I entered "CLEAR" because it is not salvage nor have a lien. To be explicitly clear, the bike is offered with a State of Connecticut Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate, not a title. I try to be the kind of seller that I'd like to buy from.
