Vehicle Detail
This is a 1969 Corvette Big block Roadster. It comes with the original 427 matching numbers bare block so it can be built back to a matching numbers, (block and body), car. It currently has a powerful 454 with 4 speed in it. We believe it was always a 4 speed manual car. It has manual steering, no power brakes, no AC and as the plate behind the shifter indicates, it was the 435 horse tri power set up. This was the no nonsense, no frills fire breathing monster of the time. I would say both cosmetically and mechanically its probably a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. Headlights work, wipers work, body has only a couple of short stress cracks. It should not be very hard to get ready for a nice paint job. The carpets are good, seats are good, nice dash pad, there are some new trim parts and a new simulated mahogany after market wheel,( the stock steering wheel looks good but the steel rim inside part of the rim must be broke because it flexes to much). The headlight doors fold up and down quickly. It should have new door panels and is missing the inside door lock knobs. The speedo, tach and amp gauges are not registering. The doors open and shut well and the windows and cranks work. The heater motor, defrosters etc seem to be working ok. There are some new parts on the front suspension and it has new exhaust pipes and mufflers. The exhaust tips and bezels around them are nice. I can see some new parts on the steering and front suspension. It has a rebuilt radiator and the clutch only has about 500 miles on it. The 454 is out of a motorhome that only had about 18 k on it. I believe the cam was changed when it was installed in the vette. It's not the kind of horsepower that the original 427 has but it still feels pretty powerful. Overall the paint is shiny and looks good at 20ft. The windshield is new but unfortunately had some fall on the lower left corner and it now has a six inch coming up from that corner. I'm going have it repaired but it will probably still be visible. You are welcome to call me at 208-308-5036 with any questions. On Oct-02-13 at 18:49:06 PDT, seller added the following information: just correcting third from last line in the description --had SOMETHING fall on n the lower left corner and now has a six inch Crack coming up from that corner. I tried to just correct it ubove but since there was already bid in place I could not modify the description. On Oct-06-13 at 20:25:45 PDT, seller added the following information: concerning the original 427 block; I took a bunch of pictures of the numbers around on it and this what I found: Front left pad: TO83ILR then in smaller stamp first number is either a 1 but probably a 7 then 95700987 Under where the timing cover would go it says PASS HI PERF B 4 Down on the side of the block in one place it says HI PERF PASS K 7 In the flywheel area it says HI PER TRUCK PASS B Z 2 On drivers side on top of the block at the bell housing mount it says 39 ? 5439 with a T on it's side under that number then Conv 2 and GM3 There was also a little stub in the casting with a ZZ stamped on it The block has no apparent damage that I can see but we are going to take it to Deckers Machine Shop tomorrow and see if he will hot tank it, magniflux and check the bores to make sure it is good. He has built big block championship racing motors and knows what to look for. Other things I've had questions about; It has 373 gears. My friend that I made the ad up for has owned it since 1993. He is not the person who remove the original engine and he was the one to install the present 454. He got the 427 block with it when he bought it but choose to install the ready to 454 instead of building the 427. I will send you pics of the block and other parts of the car but send me your email address so I can send them to you via kodak easy share. I tried to delete a few of the existing pictures of the car and replace then with engine pics but couldn't figure out how to make space for the new pics (they only let you load 24 pics on the ad) Sorry if I'm slow in getting questions answered but I been overwhelmed with questions in emails. On Oct-07-13 at 20:57:24 PDT, seller added the following information: More info; The 454 did have a new cam put in it so it has a bit of a lope, probably about what they would have called a 3/4 race cam in the old days. We did take it to Decker's Machine Shop today and were told it is still std bore and should clean up well with a 20 over piston. Larry Decker said it looks like a correct rebuildable block and would try to get it hot tanked and magnifluxed this week. I have pics of all the stamps a casting numbers on the block. I can't post any more pics on the ad so if you want those pics email me and I"ll email them back to you. I am certain this is the correct original block that came in the car but if the buyer comes to pick it up and proves it isn't the sale would naturally be void. Thanks HarveyOn Oct-09-13 at 19:39:41 PDT, seller added the following information: I keep getting more questions about the original 427 block. I want to reiterate what I said about the block earlier, it is the bare block ONLY. No heads, no crank, no main bearing caps. Also today I talked to Larry Dekker ( the engine builder who is hot tanking the block, pressure testing it and magnifluxing it) and he is trying to get it checked for us before the auction ends. If he did not meet the deadline and someone goes ahead and buys it and then the block checked out bad, they don't have to buy the car. If everything checks out as represented then the sale is final. I will post the results of the testing emediatly when I here from the machine shop. Just one more thought before I close: Dekker's has built some worlds championship big block boat motors, is capable and has the parts to build a very nice 427 for this car. Possibly the new owner would like him to do the job in lue of maybe paying to much someplace else. Larry is honest, a master machinist, has been in business here for at least 30 years and does not charge extravagant prices.
