Vehicle Detail

Because it is over 25 years old it it exempt from the US DOT and EPA requirements and can easily be imported to the US. While faded and dusty from being stored in a barn the last couple of years it is also an honest and untouched car in original paint, no filler or other hidden "features". The dashboard is original with no cracks, again due to the short summers in northern Sweden. It has retractable seat belts, both front and rear, as well as heated front seats and headlight wipers/washers, also heated rear window. Self repairing rubber bumpers (hit anything with up to about 7 km/h or 4 mph and there will be no lasting damage). The front seats are the later style with high backrest (shared with contemporary Saab 99/900). Compared to the 1973 model (last year sold in north America), the back seat has 5 cm more legroom. It is a fun car to drive, 4 speed on the column with freewheeling. H4 headlights, very good on gas. I have included a picture of a mint edition 96GL, same year and color, which I also own, for reference. Please contact me for payment options. On 17-Sep-13 at 19:27:37 EDT, seller added the following information: Upon request I added some more pictures. As for rust this car is in much better shape than the early 70-ties Saabs sold in North America. This is due to much better protection from factory (Valmet in Finland) and in the case of this specific car, because both previous owners and I here in Canada had it oil sprayed a couple of times to preserve the body. It is solid under the front lower A-arms where these cars typically rust. Also the box for the spare wheel under the trunk floor is solid. The lower edge of both doors is thin like new (soaked with oil on the inside), but show some surface rust one the outside now. Just sand them down and repaint them and you are done. The rear shock mounts in the trunk is another typical rust spot for older Saab 96 where this car shows no rust. Please remember this car is in original paint, nothing has been painted over or anything. Upon close inspection today I found 3 small spots where a little MIG welding should be done, it is under the right front jacking spot, and just below where the rear brake hoses exit from inside. Small stuff that anyone with a little welding experience can fix over a weekend, I certainly could. The car is drivable, but the brakes will be a little rough until they clean up. The front muffler has a leak, but if you go easy on the throttle it will not make too much noise. If you are comfortable with changing a coolant hose and adjusting the breaker points, simple stuff that can happen, I woud not be afraid of driving this car a long distance. Thanks
