1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback Pro Street – 500HP The Ford Galaxie was a staple in the late 50’s early 60’s for American car buyers in both reliability and style. But as the 50’s wound down, a new era of car building was on the horizon for the 60’s. Where bigger always meant better, the words were rearranged to say, faster was now ALWAYS better and size just followed the speed. With the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, the American car buyer got a little of both. We entered the world of speed and the competition from Detroit was in high gear through the NHRA and stock car racing. For the Big Three, winning on Sunday meant that sales were going to soar on Monday. In the very early 60’s, the streets of America dictated to the designers of Detroit what the public wanted. Until then, if you wanted speed, you had to produce it on your own. By 1964 however, you could order speed right at the showroom. Speed came in the form of big block motors and raw factory built horsepower. But, there were always a select few that measured their success one ¼ mile at a time. There was only 1st place, and coming in second was never an option. Pro Street racers were always a breed of their own. Sometimes they got the right car, but the wrong motor combination and other times they got the right motor, but the wrong type of car. This 1964 Galaxie 500 Fastback is like the perfect storm. Exterior: As you can see from the pictures, the exterior of this Galaxie is stunning in its appearance. Set off in a base coat clear coat Metallic Sunburst Maroon paint the color just explodes in the sunlight. The body was completely stripped down to metal and any work that was done was done right. It appears that all the original body panels are still on the car and are straight and solid. If the quarters were done, they were done right and professionally. The hood, front and rear bumpers are fiber glass. However, the rear trunk lid was gutted from all the interior metal, but the outer skin still remains original. Again, professionally done work and custom pins were added for access to the fuel cells and batteries. All the original bright work is in excellent original condition and has been polished. The glass is clear and free from any cracks or chips. The original frame and floors are solid with custom work around the driveshaft safety tubes and the transmission shift housing. The wheels are new Weld Wheels with skinnies on the front and wides on the back. Mickey Thompson tires are all the way around the car with a combination of street and strip. This car is a complete show or go car. This is an older restoration and would stand tall at any local car show or event and may even win a trophy or two. However, it will not win any concourse judging. There are a few very, very minor imperfections for the most critical eye, nothing that you can see or notice without it being pointed out, but I wanted to mention. Interior:As you can see from the pictures, the inside presents extremely well with a combination of both custom roll cage and tedious custom tin work to handle the rear tub. Obviously the original seats have been removed and a complete roll cage has been installed that goes over your head to protect you in the event of a roll over. The dash is original and has been untouched other then switches added for pro street racing. Also an added aftermarket radio has been added as well. The seats do show some wear from being an older restoration but less than normal wear for climbing in and out at car shows. There is also a racing net that was added and lies next to the driver’s seat. Please look at the pictures and let us know of any specific questions you may have. Drivetrain:The drivetrain is a 1970/71 date coded 429 big block with a dual quad set up. Below is a list of what the drivetrain consists of.
