Great example of this low production example of one of America’s great luxury car makes. The 58 Capri is considered by many to be the largest 2 door hardtop body style ever produced by an American manufacturer. Although common today, it was also the largest car ever produced using, then rare, unibody construction. Even with its huge size and nearly 5,000 lb. weight it performed well due to the massive 430ci, 375 horsepower V8 engine coupled to the 3 speed Turbo Drive automatic transmission. The silky smooth ride was enhanced by the 131” wheelbase, and solid structure of the unibody construction. No expense was spared during production and, as the flagship model of the company, it is claimed that Ford Motor Company lost money on each of the 3,800 plus 2 door Capris produced that year. While the Capri was the entry level model for Lincoln in 1958 that certainly didn’t result in any scrimping on luxury options. This car abounds with them including power steering, power brakes, power windows (including the vent windows), 6 way power front seat, remote mirror, power antenna, windshield washers, automatic climate control, power door locks, automatic headlight dimmer, intermittent wipers, cruise control and remote trunk release. It has also been equipped with a modern security system and keyless entry. The car was recently treated to an extensive, driver quality, cosmetic restoration. With what is believed to be less than 60,000 miles on the clock, the original 430 V8 engine runs like new and the car performs great. The straight, corrosion free body was disassembled and treated to a quality repaint in the original white over Jade Green metallic as can be observed in the attached digital pictures. The sun damaged interior was carefully re-upholstered in the original style materials and all trim and bright-work polished or re-chromed as needed. The trunk was also redone in the correct original style material. The original size, white wall, bias ply tires are nearly new and appear to have nearly full tread depth remaining.
