Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE 1973 VW “Thing” If you are sick of looking at rusty things, mine is the one you likely have been waiting for. This one has no rust. In fact, mine has it’s original paint so you can be sure there is nothing lurking below the surface. Very straight body. Can only think of two minor bumps. Driven almost daily. I consider it very reliable. If you can find a better one for the money, buy it. Great examples of these cars have dried up. Only imported for two years, most are full of rust, have been beat on and/or owned by kids. This car has 98k original miles and spent most of it’s life in AZ before making it to Boise. First, let me share it’s known defects/unknowns… · I have made no attempts to run heater but it’s all there · Windshield wipers may need minor work · Horn in-op (new one included, but uninstalled) · Gas gauge in-op (may have new sending unit to include) · Marks it’s spot! (minor leaks) The Good news….Original paint w/great patina · No rust, NONE! (battery side pan half has been replaced. No other rust repair · New Top and side curtains · Professionally installed tow bar mounts (removeable of course if not wanted) · Front Disc brakes · New Tires · New upper and lower ball joints · New Tie Rod ends · Rebuilt Steering idler · New front/rear shocks · New Spring bushings · New front seat covers and seat rebuild kits · New seat belt hooks (has belts for 4 pass) · New turn signal lenses · New speedo clip and cable grommet · New hub caps · New CV boots and packing · Numerous new seals/gaskets · Front alignment · Front/rear sisal mats · New gas cap · New 34 PICT3 carb and intake boot kit This Thing starts, runs, drives, and stops as it should. Not really happy with the carburetor. It's a chinese copy of a Solex ironically called a Euromax. A rebuilt german solex carb would improve it's driveability at nominal cost. It shifts extremely well. (no synchro issues or popping out of gear) Has plenty of poop to run down the freeway. Feel certain that engine has been rebuilt, but can’t document it. Alterations from stock include VW 4-lug wheels/hubs to allow for front disc break conversion, the provision for tow bar, aftermarket shifter, Auxiliary engine oil cooler and remote filter assembly, and that’s it. I have receipts for thousands spent over last 1-2 years to make this “Thing” proud to own. Happy to answer questions or take specific photos. The buy it now is very reasonable and thousands below what has been spent on the car. There will be no unpleasant surprises with this car. Title for car held at bank, expect 7-10 day delay for title after payment. Check my feedback and bid with confidence. On Jul-01-13 at 13:08:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Have added a few pics in hopes of better showing the quality of this car. Prior owner spent a small fortune on parts from the thing shop, many of which are not yet installed. Many of the parts that have been installed are the small and expensive detail items like new sunvisors, hood seals, body plugs, etc, that most owners won't pop for due to cost. Box with all remaining parts will be included. (full disclosure) One pic also shows imperfection on one of the rear seat backs that is covered with piece of blk duct tape. This car is a keeper, I am only selling due to changing interests.
