Vehicle Detail

An American classic, a Ford Galaxie with the top features of the day, in solid shape. Everyone has a Mustang, but you get a real feel for what "old iron" means when you cruise in this beast!! It has all the Ford badges removed and the long arch of the hardtop looks sleek when all the windows are down. A real head turner! It was a 4-door family car in 1965 with the original 352, but now it has a 428 from a '66 T-Bird with about 500 miles on it since rebuild. Engine is stock at a very under-rated 345 H.P.(it was the end of the muscle car era, and the insurance man was making it less fun to brag about horsepower). Yes, it is really a 428, I've measured the stroke at 3.984" myself and the long block was rebuilt by a reputable shop called Gearheads in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Original 3-speed automatic C4 transmission, often called the "drag racer" because its design is legendary among racers for being nearly indestructible. The odometer says 62K, but I think it has been rolled once (162K) because the maintenance notes in the owner's manual include an oil change at 79K. It cranked in January at 20F for its mid-Winter workout, no problem. I've been driving it to work (on a 65MPH highway) about once a week to keep it loose. Amazingly, this Galaxie has all the original glass, no chips or cracks. The chrome trim is all intact and in good shape. The paint is, frankly, lousy, with some scratches and flaking, but black is a very forgiving color and it looks good until you are close enough to run your hand over it. This car was from New Mexico originally and I'm the 4th owner. I didn't believe the "desert car, no rust" bit until I owned it for a while and found some clues--like the New Mexico license plate under the spare tire, and the old insurance card lost in the dash behind the glovebox. If I was buffaloed, they went out of their way to make it plausible. Having said that, I'm not sure when it was brought up from New Mexico. I bought it in Indiana in 2003 and have not found any fiberglass filler or rust on the body or frame. Interior is black vinyl, no tears, with black carpet and mats. Looks sharp. It's got those cute triangular corner windows the kids love to crank open & shut. All the windows crank fine, including the corner windows, and all the door handles and trunk lock work fine. I've mounted a JVC CD player in the dash with auxillary jack for an iPod and there are speakers under the front seats and in the rear dash. There's a Bazooka sub-woofer under the glovebox that will rattle your fillings. Other features include power steering, power brakes, and lap belts (yes, they were optional in '65). The headlight dimmer is a button on the floor by your left foot, which is kind of a fun quirk. The entire exhaust system was replaced about 6 years ago with a twin tailpipe system. The muffler has a nice throaty rasp but no obnoxious look-at-me roar. In the spirit of full disclosure, the following are the only things not working on this car: one burnt out headlight, the analog clock in the dash (there's a digital clock on the stereo), and the rear defroster. The rear defrost flapper is actually vacuum powered and I think it just needs a new rubber hose run from the dash to the back seat. I'm in Charles City, Iowa, and willing to work with you on transportation arrangements. *** I AM RE-LISTING WITH NO RESERVE!! PLEASE ONLY BID IF YOU ARE SERIOUS--I'VE BEEN BURNED BY RETRACTIONS AND I'M READY TO LET THIS CAR GO IMMEDIATELY!! *** On Jun-27-13 at 20:27:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I have posted a video of it starting cold on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-OOfu2B2VM&feature=youtu.be
