This 1979 Volkswagen (Karmann) Super Beetle gets looks wherever it goes! As a participant in the famous Woodward Dream Cruise (and others in the metro Detroit area), this little bug gets plenty of   smiles, thumbs-up, and yes, dare I say it, even attention from the ladies!! (Who would've thought a VW beetle would ever become a 'chick magnet'?) Put the top down and cruise all day in the sun - this car sips gasoline and is a blast to drive. Nope, not the fastest car in the world, and the only way you can "light 'em up" is to use the WORKING cigarette lighter... but if you're looking for an economical and thoroughly enjoyable car that is only going to appreciate in value, THIS IS IT!  VW ceased importing and selling this model in the USA with this model year. THE VIN (1592040289) and DATE OF MANUFACTURE (10/79) INDICATES THAT THIS CAR IS AMONG THE VERY LAST  GERMAN MADE VW BEETLES TO BE IMPORTED AND SOLD IN THE U.S.A.!!  I bought this car from a doctor who also happened to be a car collector. Originally purchased "off the boat" in Florida in 1979, this car saw very little use. In fact, a written appraisal in 1994 shows just 9,994 miles on the vehicle. As of now, there are just over  16,280 original miles on the car, and it shows. It has only been driven in the summer, and mainly for cruises and trips to the local car-crazy burger drive-in. It is not driven in the rain, and has been garage stored when not in use, and in a heated garage during the winter. With the exceptions noted below, everything is original - original paint, original chrome shines, original top and boot. NO RADIO! It came without a radio and the original dash cover plate is still in place. (I wanted to leave it stock, so, no holes in the doors for speakers). Everything works (exception below), even the original CLOCK keeps perfect time... 32 years later, its still ticking! Original VW jack works fine. Original tool kit is basically un-used and in its original package.  WHAT HAS BEEN REPLACED: ALL tires have been replaced - including the spare-  Thus - FIVE NEW TIRES. I learned the hard way that it isn't the best decision to drive on 30-year-old tires (more details below).  The passenger side mirror needed replacement and was done so with a German made mirror. A new muffler was installed last year. The EGR filter has never been connected (that way when I got it, and I do have a new one if you wish to install it). The driver's seat and passenger seat were re-stuffed. New fresh air hoses installed last year (the originals were getting kind of cruddy looking). Some of the weatherstripping on the front and rear driver's side & passenger's side windows needed replacement and that was done. Note: Weatherstripping on the interior side of rear left window has popped out, but materials will be included to fix. SEE PIX.. The exterior appearance of this car is just plain excellent! NO BODY RUST, not even in the usual places (including the battery tray).  No "pan replacement" here - they're in A+++ condition. The white headliner looks nearly new - no rips or tears. Check out the photos. The original convertible top is clean inside and out ( a few scuffs on the exterior). No rips or tears. The original boot has no rips or tears, but does have some scuffs, etc. The dash is intact and not cracked. The original knobs, door handles, controls, etc. are all still here and functional. The white interior is clean, as are the floors of the vehicle. There are a some scuff marks on the back seat, these can be seen in the photos - to make it perfect, I'd replace the rear seat covers. The "trunk" is spotless and like new. The exterior does have a few minor stone chips, etc.,they have been touched up and unless you are looking closely for them, you won't see them. Again, note them in the photos. THE PAINT IS ALL ORIGINAL (Alpine white) with the following exceptions  and looks NEW. A few years ago,  I had a blow-out  while going about 60mph (on  the original tires). The tire threw stones into the rear left quarter-panel. It was a small, but noticeable blemish. I had the blemished area sanded down and repainted by an expensive, but top-notch 40+ year body-shop specialist in southeastern Michigan. The work they did was outstanding, and there is no evidence of the damage, and if it wasn't mentioned here, you wouldn't know it.  This blow-out motivated me to replace all of the tires to avoid another problem like this one in the future. In 2009, I noticed a small half-inch rust spot under the right front headlight ring (a common occurrence). I took the vehicle back to the same body shop and had it repaired and repainted - you can't tell it was touched. (See photo pages). There is a very small dent/dimple on the passenger door. Unless you are viewing it from the right distance and angle, you can't see it. I attempted to take a photo of it, but  the camera can't capture it properly. It was there when I bought the car, and as stated, barely noticeable unless you are looking for it. There are minor scratches on the left front fender - not distracting. See photos. Mechanically, this car starts right up and drives just great! I can't call a 34-year-old vehicle a "new car ride" but it truly is close. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere. There's nothing quite like the VW "wheem"! Stops fine, turns on a dime..  If you want to warm up on a chilly fall day, use the infamous VW "fresh air" heating system. Once you get moving, you'll be roasting! You want Air Conditioning? Put the top down!!.  Wipers, horn, lights all work great. New NAPA battery installed last month. A new master cylinder and new front brake shoes were installed late fall, 2006.. Installed the Petronix electronic ignition system to eliminate the hassle of adjusting the points. You can always go back and reinstall the points - but why would you?  Just changed the oil, and adjusted the valves.  When the car is weighted down with passengers, there's a 'squeak' from the right rear side -  but rarely happens when just the front seats are occupied. I'm guessing a shock replacement would answer that (non) issue. When I'm driving it myself or with a child - no squeak. Overall, this car starts, runs and drives GREAT! The fuel gauge is not entirely accurate! Learned the hard way when I once ran out of gas when the needle showed just under a half tank. My fix was and is to just refuel when needle hits the half way mark! The car does 'mark its spot' like most VWs but it's not a big dripper. If you know VWs, you know this just sorta 'goes with the territory.' Another mechanical issue of note is there is most likely a chipped tooth in the trans, at least that is what the mechanics have noted. When you put the car into reverse, there is a 'click-click-click' as you back up the car.  To me, this was not a big issue, and in fact, I bought the car this way. It operates fine in reverse. The 4 forward-gears have absolutely no problem and it shifts flawlessly, lots of life left in the clutch. The driver's side front seat back cable needs to be adjustment. To lift the back of the seat, you have to manually unhook the latch on the bottom of the front seat. A minor annoyance and entirely fixable by adjusting or replacing the cable. THIS CAR WAS BUILT IN OCTOBER, 1979. The 1979 Super Beetle was the last German made VW Beetle Convertible ever built. Here is your chance to own a unique piece of automotive history! Imagine owning a collectible that you can actually use and enjoy every sunny day!!  EXTRAS!!! WOLF CAR COVER. Custom-made for this car, like-new, high quality top of the line cover. OWNERS MANUAL.
