Here is a 30-year old gem and there is no reserve on this auction, so I expect it to go -- like the wind. This bike is a sort of legend, being sold in the US as a 650 for only one year, although there are quite a few still around. This one has been garage-kept -- it even has an original key. It can still hold its own on the road and does quite well. There are no leaks, including coolant, oil, or other fluids. The water-cooling, electronic ignition, air-assisted front forks, 4 valves per cylinder, transverse v-twin design and other goodies were all ahead of their time. There is additional information on the CX series at Wikipedia and an infosite on this model at Google. As you can see, this bike is in outstanding shape. The tank and the other 3 painted pieces were looking a little worn, so in May I had them painted to factory specs, including the replacement of all decals; no bondo was needed. I made sure that all of the decals (not just the ones on the tank) were painted over with clear coat, so that they would not fade, as did the originals. The paint used is top quality and was applied by a local body shop that specializes in motorcycle painting, so this paint job will look this good for years to come. In addition, they reinforced the tabs on the side panels, so they are top notch now functionally as well. Everything works, including the locking storage compartment at the rear of the seat. At the buyer's request, I'll be glad to remove the windshield and replace the hand grips and mirrors with their stock counterparts, to restore this bike to completely stock condition (see photos for the stock replacement parts). Here's what I've done since I bought the bike locally in 2010. I am it's third owner. Since 1974, I've owned a Honda CB450, CB550 four, and now a CX650 -- I've worked on them all, as a hobby. -- replaced seat cover (motorcycleseatcovers.com) -- I noticed that surgical foam was inserted under the driver portion -- it works great! -- replaced cracked turn signal holders and a few other cosmetic pieces, like the reflector over the rear license plate holder -- replaced the shifter seal (done by a local bike dealer) -- tank, side covers, and rear cowl painted to factory specs (and beyond, with clear-coating over all of the decals) by a local body shop that specializes in painting bikes like this one -- cleaned and replaced the seals and oil in the front forks -- replaced hub oil (synthetic) -- replaced the plastic inner rear fender -- bled the front brake system -- replaced clutch and speedometer cables, along with the front hub gizmo for the speedo, which stopped working one day -- added a windshield (to defend against the winds in Iowa) -- drained the carbs every fall and put the battery on a trickle charger, then covered the bike for the winter -- yearly oil changes with filter at the beginning of the season -- spark plug replacements and a couple of valve adjustments -- flushed the cooling system and replaced the thermostat (even though the old one worked okay) -- replaced the starter (it was only a bit weak, so I kept the original) -- many rub-downs with wax and chrome polish I also have the Haynes and Clymer books on this model, as well as an owner's manual. I also have a few extra parts, including a gasket set and other items. It runs as good as it looks -- I'm only parting with it in hopes that a collector will give this bike the TLC that it so richly deserves.
