1972 BMW 3.0CS Coupe Only 12,000 Actual Miles Last Issued Pennsylvania Title Was May 22,1973 Has Been Inside Ever Since(40 Years!!)..............100% RUST FREE!!!!! Could Possibly be the Lowest Mileage One Left!! Rare Opportunity............................NO RESERVE Possibly the Lowest Mileage E9 on the Planet!! PLEASE......Read the ENTIRE description TWICE, and look at ALL of the several hundred photographs including the TWO LINKS below before asking questions........Thanks!! Greetings to All!! imotors is quite pleased to offer possibly the BEST BMW E9 project Available anywhere! As with all "Barn/Garage Finds" each one has a unique story all of it's own!!!! This one's story starts out in late 1972!!! Being only 6 months old, it was involved in an accident. I was told that 2 celebrities were out one evening having a good ol' time, lost control, drove up an embankment, and rolled it over!!!!! Now the rollover is definitely true. I don't surely know about the celebs!! Anyhow, I was restoring my own 3.0CS way way back in 1986 when I get a call from someone who knows someone who supposedly has this low mileage rolled over 3.0CS Coupe for sale. Turns out this guy REALLY has this original 12,000 mile Coupe for sale..... LESS the drivetrain. The motor, automatic transmission, and rear suspension/diff had been meticulously unbolted, and installed in a street Rod(That, by the way, was VERY cool). Nothing was cut, or butchered! Everything else was just as BMW had built it in 1972, especially the Gorgeous navy blue leather interior!! Looking at it, I knew it only had 12,000 ACTUAL miles!!!! It was WAY too nice to part out, AND being inside since, it was basically new, and had ZERO RUST!(You always start out with the best car that you can find. When you restore a rusty car, that is what you have when you are done...A restored, patched up rusty car.....This one has NONE!). I figured that any qualified bodyman could straighten it out with ease! What I found was a basically an untouched, lightly rolled E9 coupe, that had some sheet metal damage to the fenders, lower valence, and trunk lid. The roof was slightly swayed to one side, with most glass intact!! The rear window and right rear quarter glass were broken out in the accident. The windshield was cracked, but still fitted square in the opening, along with both door glasses, and the left rear quarter glass still being in place. The basic structure and suspension were nice and square also. You could look at the car, and see how nice and level it sat. Damage was cosmetic and sheet metal ONLY....NO structural damage at all, AND it had a CLEAN Pennsylvania title issued in 1973 when he had purchased it! As you will see in the many photos below, this is a real honest low mileage car. It even has it's original Michelin XAS radials still on the ground, with a brand new spare wheel and tire in the trunk!!! When I purchased it in 1986, I stuck it in a garage for future who knows what!!!! I just knew that I wanted it, and that it was too good to part out, so I stashed it away!!! In about 1996 or so, I decided to try and sell it, along with a 1973 Euro 3.0CSI that I had acquired for a parts car to complete this one. I took them both to the Import Show in Carlisle Pa. and put them up for sale. No luck, so back home they went. THEN, I decided I was going to have it fixed, so off to the body shop they both went!!! The 4 seats were removed(Thankfully), and placed in a separate storage facility, where they remained until last month(17 YEARS!!). The guys at the body shop went gangbusters on the project. They used some of the sheetmetal from the parts car, and straightened some of the original. All of the bodywork was completed in about a month, and it was just about ready for paint, just needing the final sanding and finishing.......... And then they just STOPPED!!! Why?????? Who knows why bodymen do the things that they do....Maybe breathing too many fumes, and sucking up too much dust????? I have some before and during pics somewhere. Things tend to get misplaced after so many years, but I will do my best to locate them during auctions course. Well.....fast forward to a few months ago. I decided that after 17 years, it was time........time to let someone else have some fun, and get this Awesome coupe finished and back on the road!!! I went to the bodyshop and picked it up, along with the many boxes of parts, and attempted to clean 17 years of body shop dust and overspray off of my original, untouched 12,000 mile BMW. You will notice in the many many photos below the results of this attempt!!! I decided to assemble as much of the interior as I could to give you all a good idea of what I have here. As there are several high end cars in my own shop, I DID NOT use any air(Would have been WAY to much dust). It was all just either wiped off with a damp cloth, or I used the water hose when I wouldn't damage anything. I would assume that giving it a good dousing and blowing with the air hose will make a huge improvement. As mentioned above, the four seats were in another facility, so they are bodyshop/dust/overspray free!! The rest needs a good cleaning with something a bit stronger than soap and water. Amazingly so, it all survived quite well, considering how long it sat in a dusty, dirty bodyshop with NO paint booth. The dash was always covered, and was never taken out, or taken apart. The original wood is in fine shape. The steering wheel has a few cracks, and the interior chrome has some VERY minor pitting, that should mostly clean up, and be quite acceptable the way that it is. What you see in the several hundred photos is what you get.....no more, no less. There is NO engine or transmission. There is NO windshield(The rest of the glass is there), or fuel tank. The rear suspension, axles, and diff from the above mentioned parts car Euro 3.0CSI have been installed. I don't know if it is LSD. I purchased new brake lines, and E-Brake hardware back in 1996. I also purchased a new headliner at that time. These are included, and shown in the parts photos below. There are also two thumbnail links below with many photos of all of the parts that are included with the car. If you are a "Coupe Guy", you will know exactly what is shown. As I have owned several of these cars, and restored one previously, I have a pretty good idea what it all is, and where it all goes. I believe that it is just about complete, with some duplicates, LESS motor and trans. All glass is present LESS the windshield(I was told that they dropped something on it many years ago). I am not sure about nuts, bolts, clips, fasteners etc. Again....What you see is what you get!! Drivetrain possibilities are endless, and a minor issue. These old BMW six cylinders should be plentiful, OR....How about an M5 drivetrain......or even a 4.4L V8???? Dog Leg Five Speed......Late model Six Speed???? Could be a really cool Coupe!!!!!!! I have the clean and clear Pennsylvania title in the prior owners name that was issued in May of 1973. I am a notary public, and witnessed him sign it in 1986. I can either transfer this to the new owner, OR, I can put it in the name of my dealership, and transfer that to the new owner. Whichever you prefer. IT WILL BE SOLD AT NO RESERVE.......Last Bid Owns it!!!!! After 27 years it NEEDS to find a good home!!!! Any questions are happily answered. Personal inspections and phone calls from serious buyers are welcomed AND encouraged. Thanks for your interest, and good luck in your bidding!! Below are the 2 thumbnail links to the pictures of all of the parts that are included. 72 3.0CS Parts 72 3.0CS More Parts Take a look at the 80 photographs below and see the actual condition of this One of A Kind BMW 3.0CS Coupe. By bidding you agree to all terms set forth below. Many Thanks for Your Interest! Good Luck with Your Bidding!! Note the gaps.......Nice and even all around!! The rear glass is present, and included! In this Photo you can see how well the trunk lid fits...with nice gaps all around! . 15 years of masking tape! Lots of overspray and dust that should clean up with some care Zero Rust here! Look how nice and original the wood is! The sumptuous leather interior is in fantastic condition and is certainly commensurate with the low mileage. When was the last time you saw rust free E9 rockers like this?? Gorgeous wood on the dash.....100% Original! All original stickers under the hood! Truly a Pampered and Pedigreed Low Mileage 3.0CS!!
