The 1998 Honda TRX 250 Recon was equipped with a 229-cc, air-cooled, OHV, four-stroke engine with a single, sideways-mounted cylinder. The engine has a bore and stroke of 68.5 mm by 62.2 mm. The Recon used a shaft drive driveline and an automatic clutch. The TRX 250 featured 22-mm piston-valve carburetion and an electric starter with auxiliary recoil.
