Vehicle Detail
Looking for a unique ride with an Italian flair? The Fiat 124 Spider was designed by Pininfarina SpA, the designers of many classic vehicles including Fiats, Ferraris, Maseratis, Rolls-Royce, Cadillac, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Honda, Peugeot and Lancia. The Fiat Spider has been recognized by enthusiasts and automotive magazines as the most sophisticated and reliable of the small European sports cars of the era - a significant step above the MGs, Sunbeams and Triumphs. It was also known for its peppy engine, nimble handling, civilized ride and fuel mileage. For enthusiasts, the Fiat Spider is the perfect collector's car since parts are readily available and inexpensive. You can buy almost anything for the Spider new or used from upholstery to emblems, from radiator caps to a factory new engine. This classic 1980 Fiat Spider is one of the best of the best with Bosch fuel injection and electronic ignition which makes start ups fast and emissions testing a breeze. I purchased this car about 1 1/2 years ago from a mechanic who was restoring it for his wife. He installed an overhauled differential, new rear brake lines, new upper and lower trailing arms, new panhard rod, new KYB rear shocks, new rotors, rebuilt brake calipers and new brake pads, new heater control valve and collected new parts including new front and rear upholstery from a local upholstery shop, new carpet kit, new heater fan switch, new door panels, and more before selling the car to me. I then completed the body work and had it painted a gorgeous and vibrant red that really compliments the body lines of the car. Then came the other work I performed: - New battery - New coil - New thermostat - New upper and lower radiator hoses - New fan belt - New coolant tank - Beautiful original chrome luggage rack - Convertible top from Germanex - New chrome arm rest trim - New dash cap - New solid walnut dash kit - New U Joints - New drive shaft support - New rear transmission mount - New oil pan gasket - New oil pump (replaced due to hitting a curb) - Rebuilt front brakes - PVC undercoating removed and recoated with 3m Rubberized Undercoating - New Toyo 65,000 mile tires and new spare (Primewell) - Replaced clock lens - clock works great - Kenwood AM/FM CD with audio input and Blaupunkt speakers - New flush T - New fuel filter - New hood emblems - New side emblems - Restored horn button - New horns - New door lugs - Removed, cleaned and lubricated wiper mechanism and motor - New muffler with chrome tip - Installed used (original) front fender well liners - Replaced bumper rubber and interior trim pieces as needed - Replaced door lug receivers with early style stainless steel type - Replaced console with 1981 sewn covered upper and lower console (from the cars equipped with leather interiors) - Insulated transmission tunnel - Removed, cleaned and lubricated the clutch and brake pedal mechanism - Cleaned, painted and polished Chromadora factory rims - New Fiat center caps for rims - Installed early-style original Fiat window cranks - Installed in-dash cup holder! - Replaced windshield washer motor with aftermarket motor - New tie rod ends - New center link - New alignment - At sometime in what appears the fairly recent past, the tail pipe and catalytic converter was also replaced. Everything works well - dash lights are bright, wipers work very well, heater fan is strong, gauges all work, starts fast, shifts well, lots of power, last emissions test showed it ran extremely clean, etc. Many other parts replaced with original parts (tail light, side marker, trim pieces). The car wasn't restored as a show car, but restored as a really nice driver. I wanted something that could be driven instead of a trailer queen. I've been driving it to work nearly 50 miles round trip daily and loving it. I've taken it on several drives well over 200 miles and it ran like a champ while being fun to drive. You'll get lots of looks and compliments driving this Spider! I've displayed the car at Wheels of Italy in Folsom, CA, and the Alameda All Italian Car and Motorcycle Show in Alameda, CA, and got many compliments on the car. This has been a California car since new and is free of rust. Very minor surface rust was found under the front carpets and under the rear seat, so I removed the rust with a wire brush and repainted the floor boards. I have not found any evidence of any rust anywhere else on the car. You just don't find Fiats this rust free anywhere but California. Again, it is not a show car and is 33 years old but is a great example of a Fiat Spider. I've poured hundreds and hundreds of hours into the car and even more money. It has truly been a labor of love and a real joy. Non-refundable deposit required upon winning bid to stop future buyers from flaking out. On Mar-24-13 at 08:23:56 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITION: - New front inner and outer wheel bearings and races within last 5 months - Rebuilt ignition switch (cleaned contacts, re-soldered connections) - Vent wing glass, door glass, rear side window glass in excellent condition - Original windshield (some pitting but no cracks or stars) Clarification: The prior owner installed new REAR KYB shocks, new REAR rotors, and rebuilt REAR calipers. Front shocks are not new but are good shocks. Front right rotor has been rebuilt and front brake pads were replaced at the time the differential work was performed. On Mar-24-13 at 09:09:38 PDT, seller added the following information: QUESTION: Have all the fluids been changed? ANSWER: Yes. I did a complete brake system fluid flush, replaced the differential gear oil, transmission gear oil, flushed radiator and have done regular oil changes. QUESTION: What is the VIN? ANSWER: 124CS000166026 QUESTION: What is the color code for the paint color? ANSWER: Dupont Flame Red (I don't have the actual color code)On Mar-25-13 at 16:04:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Question: What condition is the chrome in? Fiat bumpers are known for rusting.Answer: The chrome is all original to the car and is in good/typical condition for a 33 year old car. The bumpers have minor surface scratches but no large scratches or visible rust. Fiat was not known for the highest quality chrome. I took the pictures to highlight any scratches and/or dull spots in the chrome. Answer: The dash beneath the dash cap was in extremely poor condition. I cut out severely warped areas and fiberglassed them then applied the dash cap. There is one area that is difficult to see along the windshield side of the dash, near the center, where there is a buckle in the cap. The rest is solidly adhered to the dash. I took the pictures to highlight any flaws in the dash.
