Vehicle Detail
Untitled Document THE BASICS Up for sale is a 1980 Chevy G10 Cargo van with 80K miles on a six cylinder rebuilt engine and three on the tree manual transmission. This van is a strong runner and fun to drive. I especially like the manual transmission and appreciate being able to chose my gear on a hill rather than waiting for a clunky automatic to shift for me. This is the short wheel base/shorty/110” wheel base model and these shorty vans are difficult to find. This one is even more rare because it has a straight body with good paint and very minimal rust. This was a Washington State car as far as I know. One would expect Seattle/Washington cars to be rustier than normal from the rain but it does not snow here very much and therefore much less road salt than other parts of the country. We also do not get the salty sea air near Seattle which is where this car lived. This van was well maintained and it shows in its condition. MORE ON THE ENGINE This being a 1980 van has no catalytic converter that I can see (underside pictures included) and therefore makes good power and fuel efficiency. I drove the 305 V8 engines and this one seems fastener to me, which I attribute to the lack of a catalytic converter. Also there is no vehicle emissions/smog check required in Washington State for this vehicle. If you really want a V8 I would suggest you drive this one for a little while before you go out and get a crate 350. I thought I wanted a V8 until I drove this van. The exhaust is also free of excessive rust or holes that I can see. THE POSSI BILITIES This van is a blank canvas both literally and figuratively. Cargo vans are great for work because it is like having a truck you can lock. They can be converted into campers or people haulers. This van is the same body style used in the hit television program the A-Team. It’s begging to have a spoiler and red stripe applied, or a sweet mural of a wizard, dragon, or unicorn on the side for a truly nostalgic ride that turns heads. Not interested in having Mr T's wheels or a mural van, it still makes a good work, camper or commuter van. Many possibilities. The van is in overall good condition and ready for daily driving. THE BUGS It being a 1980 the van has a few things that could use attention. The shifter needs a couple of bushings near the transmission and is a little sloppy. It isn’t unmanageable but a little loose. The parking brake works surprisingly well but when released the parking brake light says on. The front seats are beat but the car comes with two vintage authentic Mexican blankets (probably also circa 1980) to hide this. I’ve seen some front seats for vans on craigslist for pretty cheap. The sliding door opens and latches properly but does not seem to unlock from the outside with the key. The dash lights do not come on, but I suspect a couple of bulbs may remedy this as the fuses seem OK. Overall these are the issues I can find, and all of them are very minor. I will update this listing if I can think of anything else. I am selling this van because I already own a shorty. I had such a hard time finding one that after I searching for months I bought mine I thought I’d go take a look at this one and ended up impulse buying it because it was in such good condition. I intend to change the color of the other van I own and fix the rusty panels myself which is why I am selling the better of the two. The engine is strong and there are no leaks or oil burn that I can see. TIRES The tires have a lot more use in them. You don’t need to take my word for it, see the attached pictures. Old Honest Abe is serious about measuring tire wear. PAYMNET Please do not bid on this item if you don’t have the money to pay for it. A $500 depsit is required within 24 hours of auction close Remaining payment within 4 days of auction close. PICK UP Buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle either in person or with a transport company. I will accommodate as much as possible if a transport company is being used. As long as the vehicle is paid for on time I can hold it for up to a month. Anything longer than a month can be negotiated. The title can either be picked up in person, certified mail, or handed to the driver. I do not recommend the latter. Do not make the mistake I do by waiting until the last minute to bid. Submit your proxy bid just in case.
