Vehicle Detail
Ford: 1966 Mustang Coupe one owner documented survivor all records NO RESERVE One owner California coupe, original window sticker, sales contract, maintenance records. 289 2V V8, automatic, power steering, Sauterne Gold. The lady with the big smile pictured above (last month) is my aunt, who at 91 years has decided it's time to hang up the keys to her beloved Mustang. She has asked me to sell the only car she has owned since 1966. We would keep it ourselves, except for the fact that there is no one in the family who can properly store and maintain it in the manner it deserves. This one owner, Sauterne Gold C-Code Coupe is equipped with Automatic Transmission, Power Steering and AM Radio and has been owned in California for all of its 47 years! If there was ever a "little old lady" car, this is it. One owner car! 289 2V (two barrel carb) V8 Sauterne Gold color (sometimes called "Champagne") Automatic transmission Power steering 172,000 miles (less than 3,700 per year) Unmodified except for eye-level stop light on package shelf Garaged since new Lovingly maintained Original California yellow on black license plate Original AM radio works great VIN: 6R07C161601 Data Plate: 65A Z 26 04B 71 6 6 Includes: Original window sticker Original sales contract Original owners manual Original embossed Ford "Ownercard" for warranty service Original California yellow on black license plate All maintenance records since 1971 (We're still looking for the earlier ones) Wheather you want a restoration candidate, to preserve it as a documented original, or even as a daily driver, you would be hard-pressed to find a better original example of Ford's finest. Aside from normal wear and tear, almost everything is exactly as it was when it rolled off the assembly line in San Jose 47 years ago. There is a lot of debate in the restoration community. Some will argue that a car like this should be left as-is because there are so few true survivors left anymore. Others will argue that it is entirely reasonable to enhance its current condition by carefully detailing and restoring all of the OEM parts with detailing and OEM style paint. Still others insist that dry California cars like this deserve to be restored to showroom new condition. Whatever you decide to do, imagine the joy you will have when driving and showing it at the upcoming Mustang 50th Anniversary events. A delightful article about my aunt and this car was posted on The Daily Turismo. a few days ago. I hope you will read it. My aunt bought it for $2844.23 from Pacific Ford Autosales in Long Beach, California, on February 23, 1966. It has lived at the same address in Long Beach ever since, and has always been garaged when not at work. She even saved the original window sticker! It is entirely unmodified, save for the addition of an eye-level third brake light on the package shelf. The trunk is in pretty decent condition: It is not flawless. It has plenty of paint chips, not all of which have been touched up. There is even a scrape near the right-rear wheel, but that is the only rust (0.25" x 2") on the entire car. Chips on drivers door According to the maintenance records, it has had three repairs for minor dents and scrapes. Thus, the paint is more oxidized on some panels than others. The front bumper had to be re-chromed once. While California's abundant sunshine and mild weather have preserved the steel in this car, it is evident that it was parked in an open parking lot most business days from 1966 - 1990. The black carpet is now faded and worn, except in the area under the floor mats which appears in almost new condition. The dash pad has an approximate 5-inch crack in it which is not immediately apparent in the photos. Other areas of typical wear and tear are evident in the most used portion of the car: the drivers seat, door pull / armrest and door panel. After carrying decades of friends and family members, both front seats have a torn seam on the left side of the bottom, but the rear seats have hardly been used at all. One seam in the headliner has come undone and was inexpertly repaired by my aunt. An artist she is, a seamstress she isn't. As far as flaws go, I think the worst (besides the above-mentioned scrape) is that the drivers window needs help going up and down. Also, I find the non-power brakes to need more effort than I would like (I'm used to modern power brakes). The drivers side door mirror also won't hold its position. To be absolutely clear, this car has not been cleaned or detailed prior to these pictures being taken. The engine bay is shown below in the condition which it currently is in. No attempt has been made to hide any spills, leaks, corrosion or flaws. This is the original 200 HP C-Code V8, with all of its original California emissions equipment in place. The car is available for inspection in Zip code 90039 during daylight hours. Just contact me via email at: Flash502@Flying-Disk.com, or via eBay email to set up an appointment. I will happily answer questions via email or telephone. The successful bidder will be required to provide a 10% depost via PayPal within 48 hours of auction close, or the bid will be considered non-performing and any and all right/claim to the car will be considered forfeited. The balance of payment is due in cash at pickup within 14 days. I will be unavailable March 21-25, hence the extended time. I will meet you at any bank or credit union in the Glendale, Burbank or Pasadena area to complete the transaction. As I am not a professional car trader, I am ill-equipped to provide assistance with transportation of the car, which will be the sole responsibility of the purchaser. Foreign purchasers will need to complete the sale through a local agent, under the same conditions set forth above. I will insist that your agent provide a photocopy of your drivers license as well as their own, to protect you. Additional high resolution pictures are available by contacting me at my email address above. Finally, best of luck to all who are interested in this car, you are buying a piece of our family's history. It will be missed, and both my aunt and I will be grateful to know where the car ends up, and what you do with it.
