In 1979 i bought my 1st bmw. in 1981 i wanted a bigger bmw and passed on a 1968 white r60 but fortunatly a buddy bought it. In the early '90's i found another white, r692us w/gal tank but sold it to finance my wifes engagement ring. Fortunately another buddy bought that bike. Last summer i ran into this bike. The owner bought it from a neighbor in june of 1973 with 20,000 miles on it. the previous owner is now 75 yrs old and rides a 3 wheel Wing so he didn't need this bike. Between the time i told the P.O. that i'd like to buy it and actually exchanging the funds my wife's health came into question but we bought the bike anyway. It now appears we'll be having medical bills to cover so we won't be keeping this white bmw either. Some things just aren't to be. The P.O. told us that he never waxed the bike as he was told that it'll remove the pinstripes ( which it doesn't help) so the stripes are thick , well defined and beautiful. there is an original owners manual, some tools (not many), tire pump and a luggage rack. There is a compromise on the wide, dual seat but still serviceable and comfortable. There are no dents or dings that I recall in the tank or fenders. The original chrome rims are in great shape. the exhaust has no holes and appears good for some time to come. I have heard this bike run on 2 occasions before buying it and i listened to the engine closely to hear any funny goings-on and it sounded like a well oiled machine. This bike will need a battery and new tires and tubes, maybe oils changed and smiles installed. These Wixom upper and lower Fairing combinations have always been of interest to me as i like a "foul weather" bike with good protection and the styling these have...... While the white and Black paint combination may not be of favor to some but I rather enjoy it. This bike has i believe 2 sets of all the keys including the saddlebags. A close exame of this bike shows some rust coming thru the paint on the front downtubes but i wonder what a lil wax would do. One will aslo notice the rubber around the tailight can is missing (weatherrot). This bike is a daily rider and it would be a shame to restore it as it's that original. When asked about the slinger he said "keep clean oil in it and thats not a problem" so.....
