Vehicle Detail
TOYOTA CELICA SUPRA ~ RARE MARK I SPORTS PERFORMANCE PACKAGE ~ 5 SPEED MANUAL The S.P.P. was available only for 1981, and offered a suspension upgrade, and the factory front and rear spoilers... quite scarce these days. This car represents the top of the Celica range for the early 1980s, powered by a 6 Cylinder engine (rather than the 4 Cylinder in the Celicas), mated to a 5 Speed Manual Transmission. This Supra is well optioned and very original. She is finished in Two-Tone Black and Silver (1981 only) over Burgundy leather, and features power windows, locks, and cruise control that work, and climate control A/C (which is complete but blows warm). The Supra currently shows just under 98,000 miles on the odometer, which I believe to be correct, but as with most older cars, the title has been marked as mileage exempt. She has largely avoided the rust issue that these cars faced. There is some rust in the rear quarter panels that should be addressed before paint, but very little elsewhere. The paint is ORIGINAL, and while that means that the clear coat is gone from the upward facing surfaces, it also means that there are no hidden surprises, old body work, or previous rust repair. What you see is exactly what you get. There are no puddles on the garage floor, and there is no James Bond Style smoke screen in the rear view mirror. She has a recent battery, oil change, and tires on the original Supra Alloy Wheels, and new plugs and fuel filter last summer as well. There is nothing wrong with this car that should keep her from being driven home, or daily for that matter. She is not a new car, and is priced accordingly. If you search closed sales on Mark I Celica Supras over the last year, you'll only find a couple. These cars were uncommon when new, and are quite scarce in 2013. In the last year I've seen one in need of a TOTAL restoration that closed at $900, and a 25k mile survivor in excellent shape that sold for $12,000. This is neither of those cars... but a generally respectable and drivable car that could be enjoyed for years to come with little more than maintenance, improved as you drive, or fully restored at your convenience. Perhaps the best thing about this car is that as rare as it is, most mechanical parts are readily available. Besides that, it's a TOYOTA, and therefore, the needs will be fewer and further between than most other similar era cars. The pictures are current, and offer an accurate representation of the condition of the car, except that the headlights have been returned to stock-type sealed beams, and that due to the glare you can't really tell that the leather at the top of the back seat is shot. I can email you any additional images you desire upon request. Of course, if you're local, I not only welcome, but encouraged meeting her before bidding or buying. OTHER THOUGHTS: 1. The car is currently PA safety and emissions inspected through April 2013, and I see no reason that she shouldn't pass again in April. There have only been improvements made since last April, and very few miles driven. The current emissions sticker is an exemption sticker, based on the low miles driven in the year previous, and she should probably be eligible for emissions exemption again this year if that was your preference, on the same basis. 2. The car is very complete and original. The rocker trim on the left side is essentially the only thing missing from the car. I have one on the parts car that can come with this one when she's sold... but it's not in the best shape, so a better one might be sourced by a new owner. 3. The car consistently runs warmer than my other Supra, but has never over heated for me. The previous owner replaced the radiator with a new MKII Supra radiator just prior to my purchase, so that's off the list. Even though I never had an actual overheat issue, a new owner might want to troubleshoot this, and repair as needed... I strongly suspect a thermostat. 4. The shifter bushings are pretty well worn. 5. The ignition switch occasionally sticks in the start position for a second or two. A known good replacement will be included from the parts car. THE SUPRA HAS A CLEAR PA TITLE IN MY NAME, WITH NO LIENS... in my hand, and ready to be signed over to a new owner with no delay. THE SMALL STUFF: Payment in full must be made within 7 days of the close of the auction, following a non-refundable $500 deposit through PayPal that must be received within 24 hours of the auction ending. Payment methods accepted for the balance will be cash, a verifiable cashier's check from a bank with local branches in central PA, or a bank wire transfer directly to my credit union (preferred). If your plan is to come to Harrisburg to pick up the car, I can arrange to pick you up at the airport (MDT), bus, or train station. If you would be planning to ship the Supra we can make our schedule fairly flexible to arrange to meet a transport service of your choice. The Supra can stay here after payment in full has been received for up to a month to accommodate YOUR schedule - garaged, and of course - not driven. The mileage may increase slightly during the duration of the auction, as I'll likely drive the car a few days, and there may be test drives. PLEASE ASK any and all questions... your bid is a binding contract to purchase - not to consider. Thanks for looking, and take care. Rob.On Mar-06-13 at 16:25:28 PST, seller added the following information: Hello Everyone... Thanks for the bids and the questions. I think that I've gotten to everyone individually with answers. I just wanted to mention that I'll be available any time Friday or Saturday to show the car to anyone interested in coming by for a drive. Email to set up a time and I should be able to flex to meet your schedule. I also wanted to mention that this is the last time this car will show up on ebay... two listings at $72 each is enough. The reserve price was missed by less than $50 last time, and the current bid is within a couple hundered of the reserve with 3 days left to go. If the car doesn't have a new owner after the auction closes, she can stay until someone local decides to adopt her. To answer the single most common question that I've received, the main reason the car is for sale is that she's been bumped from the garage space, and I don't want to let her sit outside... doesn't seem right. Thanks, and BID UP :~). Best Regards ~ Rob.
