Vehicle Detail

This is a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am (the exact make and model used for the show cars used in the Knight Rider show). I've driven it for three years, and it truly has served me beautifully. Now that I've bought an already-finished KITT replica, it's time to pass the torch of my beloved car to someone else. It will make a perfect car for any Knight Rider enthusiasts looking to build a KITT replica. With it, you get many of the things you would need already, such as the iconic wheels, PMD seats, and rear taillights mask. Finally, it will also make a perfect car for anyone who is an enthusiast of American muscle and wants to restore it to mint condition. More pictures here since eBay for some reason won't allow me to upload more pictures: http://imgur.com/a/NextQ#2. Features ======== 4-speed manual stick shift. PMD seats. Front disc brakes, rear drum brakes. VERY RARE 15" Turbo Cast aluminum wheels (these alone are $1500) with plastic bowling-ball hubcaps, both featured in the Knight Rider TV show. 45 W 4-way ALPINE CDE-102 stereo with add-on amp, line in, CD player, and four new ALPINE speakers. Sounds *loud*. There is a rattle coming from one of the speaker mounts, but it sounds very good. The radio antenna is gone, so bring your iPod. Bonus rear smoke black taillights mask for the tail end of the car (to make it look more like the Knight Rider show car). Condition ========= The car runs. It does about 14 mpg. It is hella fun to drive. It almost always reliably starts the first time you crank it. It has lots of low-end torque. OK, now comes the frankness part. The engine vibrates quite a bit, because it's a two-year old aftermarket rebuild (looks stock, passed CA smog Gold Shield testing every time). It's got quite a lot of power for its age (but don't expect it to race a Porsche). Nevertheless, it is fast and has indeed gone way faster than I'm willing to admit publicly. The engine has been reported to burn some oil, so you would do well to check the oil every couple of weeks or so. The fan clutch was replaced with a new one. There is a minor coolant leak in the passenger compartment (coming from the heater radiator) that activates when the heating is turned on. The transmission has a lubricant leak as well. Sometimes it's hard to get gears in. Attempting to put the car in reverse gear causes a grind (but reverse itself works fine). The clutch is relatively new. Power steering works fine. The steering pump and assembly housing are new. The A/C unit, while having been recharged, is not in proper shape and will cause the belts to wear out, because the original compressor is not rated for the 134A gas. The driveline is a bit loose, and the rear axle is bent, which causes a noticeable vibration at around 57 mph. The paint is in poor shape, with major discoloration and some rust spots. There are two minor dings -- one in the side of the nose and another in the side of the tail. The interior is in rather poor shape. The roof (headliner) and the seats need reupholstering. The dash has several noticeable cracks and is discolored. The console is cracked and loose too, which causes a rattle under certain conditions. Expect all around rattles where pavement is uneven. The gas gauge goes from E to 1/4 tank (when it's full). Everything else is okay. The door seals and other related parts need replacement. These cause a noticeable howl when the vehicle runs above the speed limit. The brake shoes are new. The brake discs and pads were replaced with new parts about two years ago. No leaks in the brake fluid system. The tires are in good shape. The rear left tire loses a bit of pressure every few weeks or so, and I haven't bothered to fix that. History ======= I bought it from a junkyard where it was held as salvage. They shaped it up and sold it to me for cheap. I know it has been in at least one collision because there was a bit of broken glass under the rear seats, which I noticed when replacing the rear suspension. That's really all I know about the car's history -- Carfax came up mostly empty. Shipping and payment ==================== You pick up the vehicle in San Francisco, CA. We can, of course, discuss payment options.
