Ironic, isn't it, that Ferraris have become the most cherished of all automobiles, because the truth is that Enzo Ferrari didn't want to build cars that people would drive on city streets and country roads or that valets would park right up front at the fanciest of restaurants. All he wanted to do was build cars that would compete - that is, win - on racetracks. He built those cars for his own team of drivers, though to cover the cost of such activities, he built some that he sold to others who shared his passion for the race to the finish line. Offered here is one of the most beautiful of his creations - the 512 Berlinetta Boxer - BBi. (The "5" in the 512 means 5 liters, and of course the "12" means 12 cylinders. "BB" means Berlinetta Boxer. The name "Boxer" indicates the presence of a so-called flat V12, an engine with its pistons horizontally opposed on either side of the crankshaft, punching back and forth, much like a boxer's jab.) This is a 1984 model, so it has all of the running improvements that had been made to the car. The most important perhaps being the fuel injection, making the car much more drivable. There were 2,300 produced from 1976 - 1984, so this is a rare car. An example like the one offered here is much more rare. It has just over 8,000 miles. All Boxers brought into the U. S. were "gray market" cars. This was the unofficial method for importing cars to the United States through a private broker. This one is the most desirable color combination - Red with tan interior.
