It was the last new car my grandfather bought before he died. He ordered it from Dirkes Chevrolet in Fairfield, Montana. He went through my dad whose favorite line was “I can get it for you wholesale.” It was the first year they made the Caprice and we were also quite impressed that what we considered an “old man” of 63 was cool enough to order a two door instead of the usual four door family car. Of course I thought he was cool anyway since he liked some of my music since I was only 16 at the time. In 1973 Grandma bought a new Caprice and she sold us the ’66 - or should I say my to husband Mike, since she only put his name on the title. This irritated me to no end. I was her flesh and blood after all! I made sure this was remedied as soon as possible. We drove the car for years and so did both of our daughters. The car was overhauled at about 98,000 miles and we did replace the upholstery with what we thought was a very fashionable black, crushed velvet. In the 90’s the car was “put out to pasture” so to speak. Being farmers, we just parked it and didn’t see the need to sell it. Now that we are retired and realize we will never restore it, we would like to see it go to someone who could bring it back to new condition and really treasure it."
