Vehicle Detail
This 1954 Buick Special 2 Door Hardtop has its original 264 engine and 2 speed automatic transmission and it is in running, driving condition. Rescued intact from the dry desert climates, this collector car is significant because it has never been messed with, modified, molested or otherwise intruded upon. Odometer reads 60,530, unconfirmed as actual. In 1954 Buick was America's third biggest auto builder. It was Number 3 because of the Buick Special. The Buick line had been restyled for 54 and the Special with its new nailhead V8 became a sales leader. Longer, lower, squared-off, and more powerful, this was a great looking, great riding car in its time and still is today. A very scarce and very cool coupe to restore, it is presented in its original state -- body, interior, trunk, engine and engine bay, all of it time-worn but pretty much factory complete. What isn't on the car appears to be in the trunk -- original air cleaner, original clean hubcaps (all 4), door handles, chrome pieces -- all the hard-to-locate pieces and parts. The windshield is bad, the rest of the glass is there, the original steel wheels are missing, but this Buick comes with four 60s Riviera chrome wheels on a set of nearly new tires. (The spoked wheels seen in the photos aren't part of the sale) So what's so special about this Buick Special? Try these features: The classic Buick VentiPorts in each front fender. The headlights, futuristic and fantastic, like something left over from the one-off Buick show cars of the fifties. Look at the taillights -- twin red cones with an orange eye between them. Look at the enormous grill, the front bumper -- hundreds of pounds of smiling chrome, all of it in wonderful condition. How about the twin spotlights. How cool is that? Inside, check the dashboard -- a little weathered but what a sleek design. A massive steering wheel with ornate Buick crest, Sonomatic radio, space-age joy-sticks for heat, defrost and fan. The blower, heat and wipers work! Also, a nice clock, which appears not to. Those are the original seats and seat covers, nice fabric and pattern at one time, just parchment now. Let's talk about rust -- the greatest concern for any restoration. Driver's floor and left rear passenger are shot, but rockers. rear quarters, front fenders, and trunk look solid. We offer a donor Buick for an additional $500. This car is dry and rust-free and can't wait to shed it's sheet metal for a noble cause. And what could be a nobler cause than putting this 50s time warp machine forged in Flint, Michigan, back on the road? It's got refinement, it's got style, and it preserves a larger than life era in America's automotive history. NO RESERVE ON THIS CAR. Sale comes with a Clear Title, ready to transfer. We can assist with shipping, nationwide or worldwide.
