Vehicle Detail
It is tough for me to put my car up for sale, but I've realized that this not the right car for me. I've wanted one of these cars since 2004 and now that I have it, I am just not enjoying it as much. I want to emphasize that this has nothing to do with any issues with the car, but rather my own preference for newer cars. I imagined that I would enjoy this car on evenings and nice weekends, but I've been spoilt by the creature comforts of my newer BMW and hence I find myself driving this car less and less. The Search Since 2004, I've been trolling Ebay infrequently for the perfect 190E 16v. The car had to have low miles, black and impeccable maintenance. I found this car while I was in NJ and to my surprise it was only 30 minutes away from where I worked. I had to check it out. Upon seeing the collector plates, I knew this was the right car. The car had been owned by an MB executive from new, who had recently titled it to his son. The maintenance book has maintenance items from 1987! As you might imagine, it took me little time to finalize the purchase. The Car As mentioned, I am effectively the 2nd owner of the car, as the original owner basically titled it to his son but had it in his care. The car is a US spec 16V. The car is best described as a fantastic driver and weekend car. My intention was not to daily drive this car. Here are the basics Details Paint - Is in fantastic shape! The trunk was repainted due to a fallen branch, but it has been matched perfectly. The spoiler is a tad wavy, but shows nicely. There are a number of small scratches, but I would rate the overall paint as an 8/10 Body - One of my unpleasant surprises was to find some surface rust under the doors. I had all of these fixed. The tabs under the hood holding the sound deadening material also have a bit of rust but it has not bothered me. Finally, what seems to be the radiator support seems to have rusted through. I recently viewed the rest of the underside on a lift and it is in great shape. Some photos are included. I would rate the body a 8/10 Interior - The second best part of the car after the engine! The leather is in perfect shape with minimal wear even on the driver's seat. The dash is uncracked as well. The best thing though is the working stopwatch! The original becker radio is going strong and it is perfectly complemented by an aiwa FM transmitter that is connected to a 6 CD changer in the trunk. Nothing seems to have been cut for this installation. I would rate the interior a 9/10 Engine - Upon getting the car, we inspected the fluids and the plugs. Everything was fresh, but we did an oil change for good measure. The car has had 1 clutch replacement in the past and it feels like new. I unfortunately could not find any documentation on whether the timing chain and tensior were replaced, but given the level of care, I would guess that this was done in the past. The car idles well and revs beautifully. The only concern is a small blow in the exhaust due to a hole. The exhaust is defnitely due for a change. I would rate the engine and drivetrain a solid 9/10. Suspension - The SLS module is in place but it no longer works. However, the system is stuck at a good ride heigh. I would give this a 6/10. Electricals - All electricals work with two exceptions. The antenna recently stopped working. Also, the driver's seat does not seem to have a stopper so if the seat were moved all the way forward, it would come off the rails. This is not a problem if the driver is cautious. I have also replaced the battery. The car recently passed the NY state inspection and I have the clear title in hand. The car is currently stored in a climate controlled garage. Shipping Buyer is responsible for shipping costs. I will help organize the shipping.
