1999 FORD EXPLORER XLS 2WD

NO RESERVE! We expect this crappy SUV to sell for cheap money so don't hesitate to bid.

RUNS OK. DRIVES GOOD GOING FORWARD, BUT WILL NOT DRIVE IN REVERSE. BAD TRANSMISSION.

BUYER BEWARE...THIS EXPLORER LOOKS BAD INSIDE AND OUT AND NEEDS WORK!

NEEDS COSMETIC, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL WORK.

Highlights:

• High miles, but this is a One Owner SUV with a clean CARFAX Report.
• This Explorer is a project vehicle because it needs mechanical work (transmission) to be driveable.
• The ideal winner of this vehicle will be a mechanic who can make the needed repairs and then use it as a work vehicle.
• It will not pass State Inspection due to the cracked windshield. We have not checked this car out in our shop so there may be other factors that will also keep this SUV from passing State Inspection. This Ford will be sold with a VA State "Rejection" sticker to VA residents. It will be sold with the current inspection sticker to all others.
• This Explorer was just traded in and we are now listing it on eBay telling you of our visual observations regarding the car's mechanical/electrical and cosmetic condition.
• The 4.0L, 6-cylinder engine starts with a little roughness and a slight ticking sound, but those quickly go away. The engine runs pretty good after that. This Ford will drive forward, but cannot be driven in reverse at all. The CHECK ENGINE light is NOT on. The automatic transmission probably needs to be replaced.
• There is no rust on the body, but the body does have small dents here and there and some panels have been repainted and have a completely different shine than other panels (see pics below). There are numerous scratches, scrapes and paint chips here and there. The chromed steel wheels are very dirty with brake dust and have a little surface rust in spots.
• All the interior power features (locks, windows, mirrors, etc) seem to work fine including the nice sounding Ford AM/FM/In-Dash CD Changer audio system.
• The interior is very rough and filthy. There are numerous loose, missing and/or broken trim pieces. The seats are filthy dirty (looks like grease, but not sure). All the seats have some degree of dirtiness and the driver's seat has a hole in the vinyl on the lower-bottom left side bolster. The interior needs alot of detailing to include a good carpet shampooing.
• Issues with this Explorer include: a 2' crack on the right side of the windshield (see pic below), a bad transmission, poor paint all around the exterior, filthy interior (seats, carpet, trim), the driver's door won't unlock with the key (the remote will unlock it though), the center armrest is dirty and broken, the cruise control buttons on the left side of the steering wheel are missing (cruise does not work), and the struts are bad on the back glass. Beyond those items, we don't know of any other cosmetic, mechanical or electrical issues.
• This Explorer can be a good project vehicle or a good parts vehicle.
